Water and Wastewater Engineer
Anticipated Hiring Range: $92,248 - $106,704
The purpose of this position is to provide engineering support for the Water and Wastewater departments with a section consisting of approximately 7 staff members depending on the variety and priority of assignments. An employee managing this division is responsible for review, design, and approval of projects which impact the wastewater collection and water distribution systems.
In pursuit of the support function the employee exercises supervision over salaried, technical, laboring and clerical personnel. Work is performed under the general direction of the Director of Utilities.
Education: Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college in Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering or related field. Licensure as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Maryland required within one year from date of hire.
Experience: Five (5) years of progressive experience in engineering design, construction and/or management of public Water and Wastewater systems, including one (1) year of supervisory related experience. Must possess extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of Water and Wastewater Engineering and project management as it applies to the planning, design, and construction of major Water and Wastewater facilities. Experience in the operation, maintenance, and financial principals of the public Water and Wastewater systems desired.
License & Certification: Valid motor vehicle operator’s license with a satisfactory driving record in accordance with City Policy.
Essential Functions: This position performs in-house engineering duties which include the following tasks: Responsible for designing and preparing drawings and specifications for the Water and Wastewater systems improvements; responsible for the review and approval of Water and Wastewater infrastructure design drawings from property owners/developers; provides oversight to the Assistant Engineer regarding the maintenance or updates to department manuals and standards/specifications; responsible for and provides direction to the GIS/CAD employees to maintain and update infrastructure mapping; assist the the Operations Managers with the preparation of request for proposal for contacted design and construction services.
