Position Overview:
We are currently seeking a Waste Management Specialist to ensure all waste received at the Environmental Restoration & Disposal Facility (ERDF) and the Integrated Disposal Facility (IDF) are compliant with the requirements, programs, plans, procedures, and documents. ERDF and IDF are engineered disposal sites at the center of the Department of Energy (DOE) Hanford Site near Richland, Washington. They are designed to receive immobilized low-activity waste from the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant and other low-level waste from Hanford Site operations.
Some of the duties include:
- Manage facility compliance within the approved authorization basis documents (e.g. RCRA Permit, Facility Hazard Categorization, Waste Acceptance Criteria)
- Provide support matter expert (SME) support and oversight for waste shipping and disposal.
- Review and endorse waste stream characterization documents.
- Interface with waste generators to coordinate and schedule waste shipments.
- Review documentation for compliance within controls established in the facility Waste Analysis Plan.
- Determine storage, treatment, and disposal requirements including placement.
- Maintain records documenting final disposal of all waste packages.
- Ensures waste verification activities are performed as scheduled.
- Assist in the development of Waste Shipping Receiving Plan (WSRP) or equivalent documentation.
Work Environment:
- Lift up to 20 pounds
- Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to feel and reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
This is a position split between indoor and outdoor activities. There are some aspects which are required to be performed in the field. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Qualifications include:
- Ten (10) years in CERCLA/RCRA waste characterization, designation, acceptance, shipping, and disposal.
- Five (5) years working with radiological waste characterization, designation, acceptance, shipping, and disposal.

Compensation:
In compliance with local law, we are disclosing the compensation, or a range thereof, for roles in locations where legally required. Base pay is just one component of CTI’s total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $168,000 – $173,000 salary per year.
