Job description

Description:

Main Duties:

Packing lead is responsible to train new and new temporary employees on the procedures listed below and assure that the new employee understands what they will be held accountable for while in the task of packing for the warehouse.

  • Packers are to adhere to all OSHA regulation Safety Standards in the warehouse.
  • Packers are responsible for maintaining a safe work environment that includes their packing stations and any areas of the warehouse which includes all the warehouse, front offices, the breakrooms, and restroom areas and that may require housekeeping tasks.
  • Packers must keep their packing stations in a neat and orderly fashion to maintain as part of a safe work environment in the warehouse, assuring no excess inventory is left on their pack stations, or in work areas where the inventories are not accounted for.
  • Packers must keep workstations stocked with supplies (cartons, tape, stretch wrap, labels, paper, packing materials) that may be needed for shipping throughout the shifts.
  • Packers are to pack items from the requested sales order (SO) in a timely manner with 100% accuracy while abiding by all safety regulations during the process.
  • Packers are to be responsible for assuring that all the items that are being requested on a sales order, are packed safely, and securely for transportation in the correct type of carton container for small parcel shipments or placed on the correct size and type of pallet and stretched wrapped securely for any LTL and LCL shipments.
  • Packers must choose the correct type of carton for shipment that will utilize shipping the least amount of “air space” when selecting cartons for shipment.
  • Packers must choose the correct type (standard pallet for domestic shipments/heat-treated pallet for international or overseas shipments including HI or AK) and size pallet when shipping LCL or LTL shipments utilizing the best practices to minimize shipping “air space” on pallets.
  • Packers must assure that all liquid filled items are sealed completely utilizing stretch film to seal openings of liquids.
  • Packers must then assure the sales order (SO) is shipped 100% accurately according to the information on a sale order before order is invoiced in the system.

  • Packers must accurately pack the requested version’s and/or a particular set of items and the correct quantities of the items, for each of the line items of a sales order that the Picker picked for the sales order.
  • The Packer must assure that ALL sales orders items and quantities are being organized on their workstations by the Pickers when the completely picked sales order is brought to the Pack stations to avoid making errors by mixing multiple staged sales orders on their workstations into the incorrect sales orders.
  • It is recommended that the Packer communicate often with the Pickers’ bringing the completed picked sales orders to your workstation to assure there is no confusion as to how the Picker stages orders on the Packers workstations.
  • When packing an order, consider the Voice of the Customer (VOC) on how to Pack an order. A package should be packed using best quality practices available so that orders arrive free from damages, 100% intact to the customer, and 100% accurate.
  • Packers must then seal packages completely on small parcel shipments so that no items are visible during the shipment process.
  • Packers must make sure stretch wrap completely covers all product on the pallet being built to assure less likely hood of theft from others who may encounter our shipment during the delivery process.
  • Once a sales order (SO) has been 100% accurately and completely packed, the Packer then invoices the order using our system, and staples the invoiced document onto the package, or packages, or pallet, or pallets being shipped for all small parcel and/or LTL/LCL processing.
  • The Packer must be capable of standing and walking for extended durations of time and requires repetitive movements, bending and stooping, throughout the day and requires the ability to lift a minimum of 40 LBS.
  • This job description reflects the current assignment of essential functions and is not meant to be all-inclusive.
