Under the supervision of the Mechanic Foreman, the Warehouse Mechanic is responsible for maintaining warehouse and retail store product moving equipment. Performs Periodic Maintenance on all equipment on a regularly scheduled basis. Troubleshoots, repairs and replaces electrical and mechanical parts. Performs ARC, TIG and Acetylene welding and uses cutting torch to complete structural repairs and to fabricate parts. Uses a variety of mechanic’s hand and power tools. May charge and repair batteries, depending upon staffing.
The warehouse is operational 24 hours per day, 6½ days per week, and 362 days per year. This position requires availability from 2pm to 10pm or 10pm to 6am.

Responsibilities
- A Mechanic must be physically present at his/her work site to perform all job tasks.
- A Mechanic works as part of a crew to maintain all of the warehouse and retail store product moving equipment such as: manual pallet jacks, electric pallet jacks (“walkies” and riding), forklifts (sit down and stand-up reach trucks), tugs, and man-up “cherry picker”.
- Mechanics also perform some work on scrubbers and sweepers although most of this equipment is maintained on a service contract.
- Mechanics do not specialize in job duties with exception the of the battery department where batteries are charged, maintained and repaired (replace dead cells). However, the mechanics may be required to perform the job duties of the battery department personnel depending upon staffing needs.
- The mechanic department is staffed 24 hours per day, 6½ days per week to support operation of warehouse.
- The Mechanic uses power and manual mechanic tools and electrical testing devices to troubleshoot problems and repair or replace electrical, mechanical and hydraulic parts.
- The Mechanic uses welding equipment to repair, fabricate equipment and parts.
- The majority of the Mechanic’s work consists of completing scheduled Periodic Maintenance or PMs and the balance consists of repairing equipment. Warehouse and retail store product moving equipment are on a regular schedule for Periodic Maintenance.
- A Mechanic may be required to perform additional job duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
- Five years of forklift mechanical experience desired for external candidates. Good communication skills desired. Must be able to handle periodic schedule changes.
- Must be mechanically inclined and have some welding abilities. Welding Experience with ARC and Gas welding a plus along with metal fabrications.
- Have basic knowledge of electronic AC and DC motors and circuits.
- Knowledge of hydraulic pumps, valves, cylinders and experience with reading hydraulic and electrical schematics.
- Must have basic computer skills.
- Must be able to work at heights.
- Employment is contingent upon passing a drug-screening test and passing a pre-employment physical consistent with the physical demands of the job.
