The Role: You will be responsible for performing structural analysis and human body model interaction on assigned projects at the Vulnerable Road Users (VRU) subsystem level and Vehicle system level. You will use Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and other analysis methods to assess performance and to lead designs. You will be creating and documenting modeling plans, as well as initiating development of new processes and tools.
What You'll Do:
Integrate Vulnerable Road User requirements into vehicle styling and packaging through the vehicle development process.
Lead advanced engineering projects by demonstrating initiative, creativity, independent judgment, and project management throughout development process.
Use advanced synthesis tools to rapidly identify design strategies and help lead the design performance & select design options
Use, or manage the use of, virtual design (CAD) and development tools (CAE) to lead vehicle programs while assisting in vehicle performance requirements balance including global safety requirements.
Possess firsthand knowledge and personal capability to manage resources to conduct CAE simulations to evaluate Vulnerable Road User requirements for legal and consumer metric load cases.
Perform simulations using LS-DYNA to evaluate Vulnerable Road User requirements for legal and consumer metric load cases.
Understand and apply GM Vulnerable Road Users CAE standard work procedures for delivering quality models and simulation results.
Generate sound, timely technical solutions to meet Vulnerable Road User performance targets as documented in the Vehicle Technical Specifications (VTS) for each program. Balance these solutions with other performance requirements.
Capable of effectively producing design alternatives while working with product engineering, program teams, styling, suppliers, manufacturing, and others to implement changes to meet performance requirements.
Lead design optimization studies using CAE, DOE/DFSS and physical testing to achieve performance requirements while realizing imperative objectives.
Use advanced CAE tools and methods to optimize Vulnerable Road User solutions for styling, packaging, and performance. Provide regular feedback through regional and global forums on technical results.
Coordinate and lead physical development and validation at the assigned test facility, typically the Milford Proving Grounds. Interpret results, provide direction, and guide CAE to test correlation activities.
Work with people globally in a collaborative environment.
