Job Description
This role entails the implementation and support of Very Small Aperture Terminals (VSAT) alongside troubleshooting, maintenance, and project work related to Telecoms, Radio (VHF/UHF/Microwave), Vessel IT and Communications systems. A key part of the role is providing direct, 1st & 2nd level support at various office locations globally.
Responsibilities and Duties
• Provide prompt support and efficient problem resolutions for both marine and land-based user issues, with a focus on hardware, operating systems, networks, vessel communications systems, and corporate applications.
• Work directly or remotely with IT users and administrators across different time zones in various locations, including Europe, Asia, Africa, North & South America.
• Maintain accountability and efficient use of a ticketing system.
• Offer support, both on-site and remotely, to the offshore and onshore fleet, involving international travel.
• Troubleshoot hardware and software issues either remotely, by phone or in person.
• Carry out maintenance, installation, and project work related to vessel communication and IT equipment, with a particular focus on:
o VSAT (KVH) (Cobham)
o KVH media servers onboard
o Captive Portal servers onboard
o Vessel IT

• Aid with the troubleshooting and support of auxiliary systems, like GMDSS SAT C equipment, Global Positioning Equipment (DGPS), and Dynamic Positioning Equipment, as necessary.
• Perform repair, installation, and upkeep of vessel computers and associated software.
• Handle ECDIS installation and configuration.
• Regularly update and configure software as well as vessel files.
• Continuously monitor communication equipment and IT systems to minimize downtime.
• Oversee cost management of vessel communication and IT systems.
• Collaborate with other IT groups in the development and implementation of vessel standards.
• Record and catalog vessel communication and IT systems and configurations.
• Ensure compliance with Corporate IT policies among all users and systems, reporting any non-conformities, including software licensing and security issues.
• Provide backup and support to other members of the corporate IT group as needed.
• Manage relationships with local external vendors and suppliers as required.
Qualifications and Experience
• Extensive experience in maintaining industrial communication systems, preferably within a Marine environment.
• Degree in Electronics or IT or equal work experience
• Knowledge and experience with IP based networks and related hardware.
• Proficiency in Windows OS, PC hardware and software, and MS Office.
• Prior experience working with third-party vendors.
• Exceptional problem-solving skills.
• Excellent command of English, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Offshore Medical and Survival Certificates.
• Experience in maritime electronics service.
• Previous qualifications/experience in the offshore sector will be considered an advantage.
