POSITION TITLE: VP, Talent Development

REPORTS TO: SVP, Employee Operations

PAY GRADE: 15

DEPARTMENT: Human Resources

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

What success looks like during the first three months

  • Able to support a review of Talent Development / Training team
  • Displays ability to update job descriptions as appropriate
  • Facilitate an evaluation all current Talent Development and training programs
  • Develop a clear strategy in support of credit union's strategic objectives for 2024
  • Support an analysis of credit union's results in Best Places To Work survey and develop communication / action plan in collaboration with leadership team
  • Displays competence the Credit Union organization and department structure

PURPOSE: The primary purpose of this position is to fulfill our vision of inspiring financial wellness. The position must deliver high quality service to both internal and external members by supporting and promoting our values to Care, Listen, Learn, Solve, and Act.

The VP provides leadership and coordination of all Training and Development functions, as well as implements corporate strategies to support organizational development aligned with credit union objectives for a vibrant culture which encourages growth and development, diversity, inclusivity and a sense of belonging and purpose. The VP develops Key Performance Metrics to support assessment of the effectiveness of training/development strategies implemented.

The VP leads, manages and holds accountable the Training and Talent Development Team for achieving credit union objectives. The VP also ensures effective collaboration with the VP of Human Resources Operations and Service as well as the Major Project HR/Training Specialist in support of the credit union’s strategic projects. The VP reports to the SVP of Employee Operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Lead, manage and hold accountable the Talent Development team ensuring individual and departmental growth. Responsible for the development and training of staff, ensuring staff are well trained in all phases of their jobs. Administers annual, monthly, and in-moment coaching and review of employee performance. Sets goals for the upcoming month and develops plans to improve employee performance
  • Responsible for the organizational development, leadership development and training and learning development functions of the credit union to include oversight of a learning management system
  • Responsible for key reports and data trends that indicate the organization’s adherence to regulatory training requirements for Staff and Board.
  • Ability to analyze data and provide meaningful reports to ensure senior managers are aware of employee learning progress.
  • Develops, communicates and implements learning and development / diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging strategies and plans to achieve functional and organizational strategic goals.
  • Evaluates culture, engagement and performance across the organization.
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and acknowledgement of training programs to include but not limited to new hire onboarding, role-based training, and corporate training.
  • Design and implement organizational development interventions and change management strategies to strengthen culture and improve performance.
  • Develop and manage the organization’s succession plan and individual development plans.
  • Effectively operates department and staff goal setting and meeting structure within EOS framework, to include establishment of regular recurring L10 meetings, goal setting and people analyzer tools to support right people right seat strategies.
  • Participate in Board Committees as requested that includes, but not limited to, Personnel Committee.
  • Evaluates procedures and technology solutions to improve the overall employee experience. Negotiate timely, favorable contractual terms with existing and potential vendors in support of technology tools needed to support learning and development processes. Complete due diligence and make recommend contracts for approval.

REQUIRED BACKGROUND:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Organizational Development, Education or a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Organizational Development or similar certification encouraged.
  • At least 7 years of similar or related experience, 3 years at an executive level, including demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams. Leadership experience in a financial institution encouraged
  • Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate teams and simultaneously manage several projects. Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings, as well as speak before large groups of individuals.
  • Thorough understanding of organizational development, adult learning and development principles, practices and procedures to include knowledge or experience of corporate learning management platforms. Experience supporting fast-paced, change-driven organizations encouraged.
  • Adept with design and implementation of training and development programs.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products and other Credit Union systems.
  • Must have the ability to maintain strict confidentiality in all matters involving the personnel activity of the Credit Union.
  • All duties must be performed under the Credit Union bylaws, Credit Union policy and appropriate Federal and State regulations.

Physical Requirements

Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of travel by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.

Working Conditions

The working conditions are for an office environment. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work. The work involves physical mobility within the general work area and occasional local travel. Reliable transportation is required.

Must be able to perform job functions independently and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to plan and direct the work activities of self and others. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
