Delap is directly supporting one of our fantastic clients to identify a stellar Vice President of Finance and Human Resources to join their growing Team. This organization is passionate about serving the community. The role will be a blend of all financial operations, Human Resources, and special projects with firm leadership.
Job Purpose / Summary:
In broad terms, the key function of the Vice President of Finance and Human Resources (VPFHR) is to serve as a business partner to a wide range of executive leaders as well as budget managers across the organization. The primary role of business partners is to provide financial and consulting services to guide and positively influence the operational and financial performance of the organization.
Additionally, the VPFHR will oversee all Human Resources functions including performance management processes, compensation matters, employee benefits, and optimizing organizational effectiveness. The VPFHR will partner closely with the COO to improve the effectiveness of our system management tools for our field operations across our growing base of communities. Finally, the VPFHR manages all statutory compliance activities, including filing annual Form 990’s, corporate liability and business insurance, state compliance matters associated with state charitable solicitation activities, other required filing requirements, and periodic legal matters.
Core Functions / Duties:
Financial oversight and direction. (50%)
  • Monthly consolidated financial reporting, oversight of monthly financial reporting to Area Directors (AD) and National Resource Center (NRC) budget managers, funding status communities, profitability summaries of for-profit initiatives and monitoring of investment accounts and prepare for periodic Investment Committee meetings.
  • Improve cash flows by increasing the timing and size of cash inflows from local communities, working with Investment Committee on investment returns, and providing oversight to operating expenses vendor payments.
  • Provide financial history and financial forecasts to support a 10-year strategic financial plan with the goal of extending the longevity of Foundation investment assets.
  • Drive annual budgeting and periodic financial updates to build ownership of financial results by budget owners.
  • Internal control duties of approval of disbursements, receipts, work with Finance and Administration Manager (FAM) on periodic cash flow forecasts and striving to establish improved segregation of duties and backup resources for mission critical functions.
  • Support periodic requests from Area Directors for reports to Local Area Boards, grant applications, etc.
Human Resources oversight. (35%)
  • Foster healthy employee engagement and organizational culture with a commitment to employee wellbeing through initiatives such as cultural health surveys, cultivating employee soul care and prioritizing professional development.
  • Oversee employee recruitment, interview, selection process, drafting offer letters and new employee onboarding.
  • Oversee employee files and records ensuring we have accurate job descriptions on file for employees and that timely performance reviews are conducted and properly documented.
  • Drive annual compensation adjustments processes, including merit increases and annual bonuses, external benchmarking, performance reviews for each staff person and employee benefits plans selection.
  • Oversee payroll processing and monthly allocation of payroll and benefits costs across multiple cost centers.
  • Ensures compliance with employment, benefits, insurance, safety, and other laws, regulations, and requirements.
  • Growing knowledge of laws, regulations, and best practices in employment law, human resources, and talent management.
  • Maintain the Employee Handbook and all other employee benefits communications on a current basis and ensure full distribution of such materials to all employees.
  • Maintain and periodically publish the org chart; provide input on organization structure and optimization.
  • Lead/participate in all staff performance corrective evaluations and processes, including separation agreements.
COO collaboration and other areas of responsibility. (15%)
  • Partner with the COO to establish budgets and funding plans for new communities, produce MOU’s for signature to the sponsoring Local Area Board (LAB), and work closely with the new AD to review monthly reports and respond to budget-related questions as they arise.
  • Support the implementation and adoption of GrowthTrack and Virtuous across the field and NRC operations.
  • Assist in maximizing the consistency, accuracy, and effectiveness of the AD Scorecards. Propose expansion of metrics to include any appropriate financial metrics (i.e., funded balance).
  • Oversee all contracts management, banking, legal, insurance and external accounting relationships.
  • On an ongoing basis develop/manage effective systems of internal controls in the context of a small finance team.
  • Ongoing risk management assessments and evaluation of insurance coverage levels.
  • With Chief Technology Officer, provide oversight to technology investments and utilization.
  • Lead, develop and review all work of FAM.
  • Serve on the Investment Committee; provide performance reports to committee.
Working Conditions:
Work is primarily performed in an office environment but may also be remote. Minimal, if any, travel will be required.
Background, knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • History of successful organizational leadership in a senior level position, serving in a finance or business-related position, with a preferred experience level of 15+ years.
  • The target compensation for this role includes a range of $125K to $150K DOE (Dependent on experience) plus a discretionary annual bonus.
  • MBA and / or CPA, with some familiarity of nonprofit accounting and SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP is preferred.
  • Familiarity with employment-related laws and payroll regulations in multiple states.
  • Knowledge of and experience with varied human resource information systems is preferred.
  • Technology experience: some degree of QuickBooks, Microsoft Office or related, ADP payroll services, etc.
  • Excellent communication (written, public speaking) / interpersonal skills required.
  • Conducts all projects and responsibilities with a high sense of urgency and a commitment to excellence.
