Through our disruptive approach, we operate the first of its kind vertically integrated recycling and packaging production plant in North America supplying end-users in numerous product markets.
Overview
The purpose of the VP of Finance and Accounting is to support the business, specifically the Finance and Accounting group in producing and developing relevant, accurate, legitimate information that is in accordance with US GAAP (where applicable, support in financial modelling and analysis. The position is responsible for: financial reporting, tax compliance, budget support, liaison with our auditors/tax accountants and other relevant stakeholders, inventory management, ERP management, financial modelling, budgeting, etc. Essentially, all financial functions fall under this position.
Responsibilities
- Adhering to the Company's document retention and invoice management policies.
- Oversee accounts payable: support accounts payable processes for proper adherence to policies (i.e. three-way matching, accurate coding, etc.), ensure payments are released in priority and on-time, manage full payable cycle, support vendor relations.
- Oversee accounts receivable: ensure staff are following timely collection protocols for collections/holds, ensure staff are completing timely/accurate customer invoicing and ensure company adheres to generally accepted accounting principles for revenue recognition.
- Oversee inventory and inventory costing: review inventory reconciliations: counts/procedures to ensure accurate counts exist, complete PPV and monthly overhead allocations, standard cost analysis, etc.
- Oversee overall financial processes associated with close: review period end documents compiled by Accounts Payable staff, Senior Accountants, and Senior Accounting Manager, Cost Accounting Manager and ensure timely/accurate close of financials.
- Manage the preparation of relevant state and federal, financial, lender and investor related requests on a timely and accurate basis (i.e. IFRS, FTB, CalRecycle compliance, etc.)
- Work with senior managers to efficiently develop budget proposals, provide access to project finance information, and ensure contract/grant compliance and reporting.
- Prepare with budgeting and 3 statement modeling.
- Assist with preparation of rolling three month forecast and monthly board presentation/update
- Manage product costing models and assist in completion of cost model opportunities for different products (thermoform, sheet, preforms) including, but not limited to: EBITDA, Gross Margin, VCM, Payback and IRR calculations.
- Research revenue opportunities and economic trends, analyze internal operations, and identify areas for cost reduction and process enhancement.
- Develop financial models, other reports or reconciliations/schedules as needed.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding / working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP) and internal controls and apply them.
- Establish and monitor the implementation, adherence and improvement of accounting control procedures and documentation.
- Assist in the development of practices to ensure efficient and accurate processing of data.
- Oversee the completion of the annual audit, tax returns and other required deliverables to various parties.
- Substantiates financial transactions by appropriately reviewing relevant documents.
- Identify critical areas of improvement by providing a well-documented and explained case.
- Develop staff by managing performance, setting goals, providing ongoing training, and maintaining strong employee relationships.
- Support compliance with food safety and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) requirements.
- Adhere to applicable prerequisite programs (PRP) per HACCP requirement.
- Provide comprehensive and compelling financial perspective to operating issues.
- Participate in business tactical and strategic discussions.
- Identify opportunities for business improvement.
- Monthly analysis of financial profit and loss, capital spending and other templates as requested.
- Responsible for cost calculations, bills of material and stock valuation, modeling & review of new products cost forecast.
- Responsible for the operational closing (analytical P&L and variance analysis).
- Providing detail on operational expenditure, including, purchase price variance, material usage variance, labor variances, volume impacts and overhead/burden/other product cost spending.
- A timely and accurate operational annual budget and quarterly latest estimates to be presented to and reviewed with corporate management.
- Financial reporting – the VP of Finance will support corporate management to:
- Assure the integrity of the financial information provided externally and internally.
- Assure appropriate statutory and tax compliance (US GAAP, CalRecycle, PMDP CA, IRS).
- Safeguard company assets, including administration of property accounting, equipment control, and record retention programs.
- The lead internal person for the Company's annual audit.
- It is the responsibility of every employee including temp workers to report to Management the discovery of contamination in any area of the production facility that constitutes a risk to product and/or personnel safety.
- Other duties as assigned by leadership
Qualifications
- Recent relevant experience in manufacturing. The ideal candidate will have experience in the process manufacturing sector – preferably in packaging manufacturing and/or PET recycling.
- Proven production and consolidation of monthly management accounts.
- Recent production of year end statutory accounts.
- Production of annual budgets and Forecasts
- Management of the working capital
- Excellent IT skills and experience of using the Microsoft Office Suite
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- CPA highly desired
- Minimum 8-10 years of experience in accounting, in a full manufacturing environment
- At least two (2) years hands-on experience on the plant floor
- At least five (5) years supervisory experience
- Good working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
