VICE PRESIDENT, HEAD OF GLOBAL SITE SELECTION

The Opportunity

In partnership with the EVP & GM for Data Centers, this role will be responsible for developing the expansion strategy for the data center business, leading the identification process for where new development sites—hyperscale to edge—should be located, and then sourcing and preparing sites for development with the correct access to power, fiber, and permitting. As an integral part of the Iron Mountain Data Center (IMDC) leadership team, this role will also be responsible for working directly with the Hyperscale commercial team and hyperscale accounts to enable the sales process.

The successful candidate must be able to translate the EVP’s vision into a defined and executable expansion plan. The individual in this role will be required to provide input as well as drive and coordinate strategic thinking and thought leadership from within the data center industry to the IMDC business unit.

This role will need a leader with strategic and analytical capabilities, market expertise, customer-facing commercial capabilities, and internal cross-functional partnering skills.

The Role and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a detailed understanding of IMDC’s development and expansion strategy.

  • Define, build, and lead the Global Site Selection capability including land procurement, energy interconnection, and fiber development.

  • Define and build the market research capability to identify where our prospective customers need data center capacity on a global basis.

  • Identify, structure, and negotiate land acquisition including direct purchase as well as other structures such as JVs.

  • Participate with the EVP & GM in Board meetings to provide customer insight into how hyperscale companies are expanding and the best way to meet their needs.

  • Drive revenue growth through effective collaboration with hyperscale customers.

  • Foster collaboration and effective communications among key strategic teams (i.e., sales, regional GMs, design and construction, etc.).

  • Research and identify industry trends that influence the shaping of our future direction

  • Maintain a true authority in the data center space, enhancing the IMDC solution value and promoting a culture of innovation.

  • Act as a valued partner to sales, sales engineering, and product management.

The Ideal Candidate Characteristics & Credentials

  • A minimum of 10 years of data center experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; an advanced degree is preferred.

  • Strong executive communication skills and experience related to global data center expansion

  • Solid strategic analytical skills (i.e., market and competitive dynamics, business performance)

  • Must have the ability to collaborate with and influence the goals of senior business leaders across functional areas to effectively leverage expertise and resources, and utilize cross functional teams to maximize and focus resources on the achievement of business objectives

  • Demonstrated global mindset and inclusive leadership style

  • Comfort in a rapidly changing environment with competing and shifting priorities

  • Strong sense of urgency and results orientation

  • Exceptional written and oral communications skills (including presentations), as well as listening and interpretation skills

  • Must exhibit strong strategic skills, data center design and energy efficiency knowledge, and the ability to develop strategic selling initiatives with accounts

  • Ability to establish executive level trust-based relationships

  • Strong technical understanding of data center, server, network, storage, and virtualization
