Job description

The Volunteer Coordinator oversees individual and community group volunteers for the new home construction and Neighborhood Revitalization volunteer programs. This individual is essential in developing and retaining relationships with a variety of local individuals and community groups. 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Understand and support the mission, vision and values of Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all Habitat stakeholders to create and maintain long-term relationships and continued success. Requires excellence in both written and verbal communication.
  • Market volunteer opportunities for the organization through public outreach and direct contact with potential volunteers.
  • Manage recruitment and administer all aspects of coordination for large and small volunteer events through complex scheduling of all Habitat construction programs while maintaining relationships with individual and group volunteers to fulfill 1000+ construction, volunteer positions monthly. Requires excellent attention to detail and patience.
  • Onsite volunteer management to include volunteer check-in, assignment delegation, meal and swag deliveries, site paperwork organization, safety equipment management, training and public speaking as needed Tuesday - Saturday (high focus on Saturdays.) 
  • Work in tandem with the Institutional Giving team to ensure volunteer event details and logistics are fulfilled based upon the level of a sponsor's donation and/or terms negotiated.
  • Update Raiser's Edge NXT database on an on-going basis to maintain current and accurate information regarding both public volunteer groups and individual relationships. 
  • Produce ongoing departmental reports to showcase relevant volunteer data as needed.
  • Work closely with Construction, Institutional Giving and other Volunteer Services team members to ensure volunteers and coordinators are informed and enjoying their experience. Employee must exercise discretion and independent judgment with urgent matters regarding volunteer requests.
  • Design and maintain VolunteerHub, event postings for construction, volunteer events, update information regularly and send thoughtful, precise, and clear communication to volunteers. 
  • Represent Habitat Central Arizona as an ambassador at community events to recruit and steward volunteer and sponsor relationships. Occasional weeknight and/or weekend events expected.
  • Duties may change or be assigned, as necessary. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
  • Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal. The ability to listen and retain pertinent information.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail a must.
  • Positive personality, attitude and professionalism.
  • General administrative skills.
  • Strong sense of initiative and creativity.
  • Willingness to learn and teach.
  • Ability to work 40+ hours/week and evening hours when needed.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Must have valid Arizona Driver License, auto insurance (certain level of coverage is required to receive mileage reimbursement) and reliable vehicle.
  • Sensitivity to multi-cultural and multi-economic participants.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE:
  • High School Diploma, Associate's degree (A.A.) or the equivalent to 1 years of experience.  

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS NECESSARY TO PERFORM THIS JOB:
  • The ability to sit at a desk or in a meeting for extended periods time.
  • The ability to give and receive detailed information through verbal communication in person, using the telephone, and/or at community meetings; exchange ideas and convey detailed information accurately to staff, volunteers, and others.
  • Ability to drive to off-site locations often.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will experience periods of being on an undeveloped or construction site which may be of uneven terrain with exposure to dirt, dust, dampness, construction debris, extreme temperatures, construction noises, fumes and odors from construction materials
  • Dress code is casual and comfortable when out in the community and business casual when in the office; no sandals or open shoes allowed, steel toed boots recommended but not mandatory, company shirts will be provided.
  • Frequent early mornings or occasional late evening job requirements.

  • Employee must be proficient in or able to use or learn to use office equipment such as a computer, Office 365 products, Adobe products, printer, phone, copiers, calculator, and other communication vehicles.
