Position Title: Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA)
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Manager of Clinical Practice
SUPERVISES: N/A
DEPARTMENT: Homecare
COMPANY: OVNA
Territory: Worcester, Auburn, Millbury, Shrewsbury, Grafton, Sutton
POSITION SUMMARY:
Performs all exercises and procedures established by the Occupational Therapist. Patient care is provided in the patient's home in accordance with the plan of care developed by Registered Occupational Therapist.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following duties are normal for this position. This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Document, within time frames, observations, patient's response to treatment, treatment programs, degree of progress and notable changes in patient condition.
  • Communicate and coordinate patient care with other members of the patient's health care team.
  • Provide patient and family teaching to the patient's occupational therapy program and patient/family engagement in goal achievement.
  • Provide occupational therapy interventions in accordance with physician's orders and accepted, evidence-based professional practices.
  • Assist the patient and/or family to procure needed equipment or supplies.
  • Utilize appropriate hand washing, standard precautions and personal protective equipment.
  • Attend Team Member meetings and patient conferences. Provided proof of attendance at mandatory in-services or training programs.
  • Keeps knowledge of occupational therapy theory and practice current and acquires new skills as needed by attendance at workshops, courses, in-services, etc.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with the administration of objective standardized tests and measures and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Demonstrate uncompromising respect for patients, families and team members.
  • Adheres to all Overlook policies and procedures
  • Participates in agency quality management and safety activities
  • Maintains required licensure, certifications and vaccinations
  • Other duties as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational Requirements and Experience:
  • Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
  • Licensed as an OTA in the state(s) of practice.
  • Current State of Residence driver's license and reliable transportation

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Primary work will be performed in the patient's place of residence, may be exposed to the elements (heat, cold, rain, snow); walking and standing frequently; frequent lifting during patient care. May be subject to emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel or visitors. Possible exposure to the outdoors, unpleasant odors, house hold chemicals, and ill patients.
  • Required to travel to multiple work sites.
