Job Responsibilities
- Abstracts case data from medical records when child’s diagnoses meet APORS criteria
- Enters case data into the APORS database
- Makes clarifications, corrections, and additions to previously collected case data
- Adds new cases
- Attends regular trainings to maintain program consistency, build skills and learn from other medical record abstractors
- Maintains security and confidentiality of all records
- Develops rapport and maintains effective public relationships with facility staff
- Coordinates with other APORS medical records abstractors to maximize efficiency of requests for charts and abstraction
- Sends list of requested charts to medical facilities, tracks their provision, and follows up if not provided in a timely manner.
- Accesses medical records through medical record systems.
- Travels to medical record units of medical facilities if charts cannot be obtained remotely
- Visits medical facilities, follows established procedures, collects information, and submits study information to the central office
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to either four years of VITAL RECORDS supervisory experience in VITAL RECORDS management or four years of college with courses in liberal arts, political science, business law or related.
Preferred Qualifications
One year experience of specific medical terminology, including obstetric and perinatal medical terms and abbreviations.
One year experience using Microsoft software products Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
One year experience reviewing and abstracting medical records.
One year experience collecting and submitting study information.
One year experience conducting QUALITY CONTROL studies.
Conditions of Employment
Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
Work Hours: Monday - Friday 8:30 AM-5:00 PM
