Description:
JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Responsible for all functions related to the completion of birth, and fetal death certificates.
  • When applicable, process all paternity acknowledgement requests; complete death certificates for all newborn deaths.
  • Monthly submit fetal death report to State Vital Records Office; Update infant's name after discharge in appropriate system.
  • May provide weekend coverage.
  • May provide coverage for birth certificate processing within Emory Healthcare System.
  • Complete birth certificate for each live birth.
  • Complete a death certificate when an infant expires after a live birth.
  • Electronically submit birth certificate to State Vital Records Office within established guidelines.
  • Complete a confirmation of birth letter for each birth and mail/deliver letter with instructions on how to retrieve official birth certificate from State Vital Records Office.
  • Ensures all vaccinations are entered into the appropriate system.
  • Review the Birth Data Quality Report when received from State Vital Records Office to identify areas for improvement.
  • Performs quality review of birth certificate prior to submit to certificate to State Vital Records Office.
  • Follow State Vital Records Office guidelines for birth and death certificate submission.
  • Attend regional training meetings sponsored by State Vital Records Office.
  • Works with other department peers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of experience in Health Information Management or acute hospital experience.
  • Strong medical terminology knowledge.
  • 1 to 3 years word processing skills.
  • Great customer service skills.
  • Three years of experience in an acute care setting in Health Information Management.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

Salary: $16.25- $26.00 min - max/hour

The grade and salary of the position are based on specific criteria met within the qualifications of relevant experience, skills, performance and internal equity. This position is eligible for shift differentials.
