Idaho National Laboratory's (INL)) AI Data and Visualization group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a career as a Visualization Researcher.
Our team works an onsite 9x80 schedule located at our Research Education Campus with every other Friday off!
Responsibilities Include:
Work closely with diverse and interdisciplinary teams of researchers to bring visualization into aspects of science and engineering that are new and unconventional. Be able to support engineering research with solutions in visualization that rely on HCI (Human Computer Interaction) and can enable researchers to further science. Demonstrate effective research skills and the ability to collaborate and partner with other government agencies, academia, and private sector companies to achieve project objectives. Be a steward for collaboration. Work effectively with other research teams to develop and manage cross-cutting technical programs for a variety of customers. Support the Visualization Lead in growing capabilities of the Applied Visualization Laboratory.
Collaboration role :Be active within the visualization community. Support workshops and education in the capabilities of visualization. Support the visualization team in conducting demonstrations of capabilities to scientists, engineers, students, and the general public.
Technical role: Program tools, develop 3D environments, and 3D web-based applications. Conduct hardware setup and software configuration for visualization equipment. Advise Visualization Lead on hardware and software needs.
Minimum Requirements:
- PR0200: Bachelors Degree plus 2 years relevant experience | Advanced Degree plus 1 years experience in Computer Science or related degree
- PR0300: Bachelors Degree plus 5 years relevant experience | Advanced Degree plus 3 years experience in Computer Science or related degree
- Must be able to work in a culturally diverse work environment
Preferred Requirements:
- Proficient in combining visualization with research analysis and deploying tools in web-based environments
- Experience in web programming, such as: D3.js, Reach, Node.js, TypeScript, JavaScript
- Experience programming in Python
- Experience using design tools, such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Figma
- Experience in qualitative research methods, such as contextual and semi structured interviews, open-coding
- Experience with developing visual solutions in range of applications, such as: high dimensional data, interactions of complex systems (including AI and ML data), anomaly detection, traceability in information science, etc.
- Experience organizing workshops around key visualization skills or concepts

- Salary Grade PR0200 - 210 ($93,492 - $154,212)/PR0300 - 220 ($107,520 - $177,336)
