Located in Las Vegas’ restored former U.S. Post Office and Courthouse Building, The Mob Museum opened its doors in February 2012, and welcomes more than 400,000 guests annually. The Museum has opened the search for a VISUAL MEDIA SPECIALIST, which presents a wonderful opportunity for a seasoned professional to take the next step in their career.

Position Overview:

The Visual Media Specialist plays a pivotal role in supporting the Museum's mission through the development, production, recording, and editing of video content including promotional and marketing campaign materials, podcast productions, oral archives, interviews, microsites, programs, and video elements associated with exhibits. Reporting to the Multimedia Production Manager, the Visual Media Specialist collaborates across the organization to ideate, outline and/or script video projects, conduct recordings, manage locations, and complete post-production activities, including review and selection of footage, audio and color refinement, final editing, and delivery of final assets in various formats.

Major Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, produce, shoot, edit and format video content for programs, exhibits, promotional videos, websites, social media, podcast, blogs, email campaigns and other Museum projects.
  • Efficiently manage and document the review and revision process, including timely and effective communication across all impacted departments.
  • Maintain compliance with Museum’s visual standards related to video work; review and participate in refinement of such standards.
  • Participate in concept development including pitching new ideas, preparation and review of presentations and storyboards.
  • Collaborate with creative teams to develop and understand project objectives, requirements, brand guidelines, timelines, priorities and budgets.
  • Participate in the development and collaboration of strategies for expanding existing and attracting new audiences.  
  • Manage and fulfill video content requests for various business needs; continually maintain project calendar ensuring that deliverables are produced on time and consistent with project schedules.
  • Sort, catalog, and upload content to CMS (Content Management Systems); ensure that file storage is appropriately organized, categorized and archived.
  • Effectively manage multiple video projects simultaneously, producing high-quality content on time and on budget.
  • In coordination with other departments, conduct thorough research to ensure accuracy and relevance of content.
  • Edit new and existing content to ensure high-quality standards and error-free deliverables that promote engagement across all digital platforms.
  • Incorporate feedback from stakeholders to continuously improve content quality.
  • Maintain cameras and other audiovisual and production equipment; troubleshoot issues that may arise.
  • Transport, set-up, operate, and strike various production equipment including cameras, audio and video recorders, lighting equipment, props, and microphones, ensuring minimal disruption to Museum operations.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of developments and trends in the field of video production and provide advice on best practices and expanding the Museum’s video production capacities.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships within peer groups and across the organization.
  • Serve as a role model within the organizational structure, embodying the Museum’s Core Values and demonstrating a commitment to the Museum’s mission.
  • Participate in fostering an organizational culture that values innovation, promotes inclusion, and inspires excellence in the work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience / Qualifications / Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience in professional video production, preferably supporting a diversity of media applications.
  • Demonstrated creative and technical expertise in videography.
  • Prior experience utilizing Sony and Canon cinema and DSLR cameras.
  • Prior experience in podcast production is preferred.
  • Prior experience in filming live events and interviews.
  • Demonstrated experience in video editing, and both long form and short form audiovisual content creation.
  • Knowledge of lighting and sound elements.
  • Understanding of video/photo formats and codecs.
  • Advanced knowledge with the following: Microsoft Office; Word, PowerPoint, Excel Adobe Creative Suite; Premiere Pro, Audition and After Effects.
  • Ability to conceptualize, create story boards and/or rough cuts, write promotional scripts, pitch visual concepts and efficiently manage the review and revision process.
  • Drone flying certification is preferred.
  • Occasional early morning, evening, overnight, and weekend availability is required.
  • Able to stand for extended periods, regularly traverse between and throughout the exhibit floors, traverse outdoors, work at heights including climbing ladders and stairs, work in confined spaces and areas with limited lighting.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., including items that are awkwardly shaped and/or have offset centers of gravity.
  • Must have access to transportation to travel within the Las Vegas marketplace and extending throughout Clark County, Nevada.

Education: 

  • Bachelor's degree in film studies, video production or related field; technical training and experience can be substituted for completion of degree.
