Visual Information Specialist

This position is located in Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve, in the Interpretation and Education Division.

GS-07: $49,025 - $63,733 Per Year
GS-09: $59,966 - $77,955 Per Year
This is a career seasonal position.Qualifications: All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-01/24/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience.

Basic Requirements for the Visual Information 1084 series:
EDUCATION: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. Some positions may also require subject-matter knowledge of medicine, science, or technical equipment. You must include transcripts.
Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis.

EXPERIENCE: General Experience (for GS-5 positions): Experience that demonstrated the skills and creativity needed to use the tools or equipment associated with the work. Because talent and creative ability are vital to successful work performance, samples of work or other suitable evidence of technical competence may be required. Unpaid experience that is pertinent should be credited based upon its relevance to the work of the particular position to be filled. To be qualifying, the work must have involved visual communication of information or the application of the principles of artistic design.
Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Experience in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position. This includes planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means. You must include hours per week worked.
In addition to meeting one of the basic qualification requirements listed above, applicants must also have specialized experience and/or directly related education, as outlined below:
To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: personally and/or with guidance, provides standardized visual and audio production services to park divisions; knowledge of variety of methods, techniques, and materials used in the design, production, and reproduction of visual products to plan the technical details of, or produce, aesthetically composed visual products in a timely manner; skill in appropriate software to accomplish tasks such as photo and video editing and page design; knowledge of NPS and interagency policies, guidelines, and standards related to websites, audio-visual productions, publications, including NPS Graphic Identify Program; basic knowledge of park resources, park audiences and effective techniques that support project plans developed by others that offer opportunities for varied audiences to connect to the park's resources. You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 1 full year of graduate level education or superior academic achievement. Major study -- commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first determine the percentage of experience held by dividing the number of months of qualifying full-time experience possessed by 12 and then multiplying by 100. Then determine the percentage of qualifying education completed by dividing the number of credits completed in excess of the first 60, by 60 then multiply by 100. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts.
To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: responsible for providing all visual and audio production services to park divisions using nationally established guidelines and industry standards; working knowledge in accessibility design standards for web and non-web products; understand and can articulate the difference between informational and interpretive content; consistently provide interpretive content when appropriate; show proficiency in the culture and practices of a variety of communication mediums, appropriately representing the Agency while effectively communicating with visitors; follows guidelines, including basic laws, ADA, agency and departmental regulations and policies, and any direction given by the supervisor, and recognizes when projects or materials offered by park managers must be adapted and recommends those changes. EDUCATION: Successful completion of master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related.
