Job Description

The Visitor Services (VS) Part-Time Specialist is a leader in all aspects of customer service. You will assist the management team with overseeing daily operations including admissions, opening, and closing the museum. You will collaborate with your supervisors to successfully train new Visitor Services Representatives.  Areas of service include admissions, gift shop, theater, information dissemination, and phone reservations.  The Visitor Services (VS) Part-Time Specialist is a leader in all aspects of customer service. You will assist the management team with overseeing daily operations including admissions, opening, and closing the museum. You will collaborate with your supervisors to successfully train new Visitor Services Representatives.  Areas of service include admissions, gift shop, theater, information dissemination, and phone reservations. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure the highest quality of sales and customer service at the Ticket Desk and Gift Shop. 
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned workspaces. 
  • Work with the VS Coordinators to ensure the team acts a central information point for all Science Center operations, including but not limited to all programs, exhibits, theater films, marketing, membership, special events, and any other event related to the Science Center.
  • Perform and assist in daily opening and/or closing operations including all reports, safe audits, and checklists.
  • Assist with developing and executing a regular method of informing and training all VS representatives on new relevant information and processes.
  • Work with the VS Coordinators to ensure team members are following all procedures and processes accurately.
  • Communicate payment policies and procedures with internal and external customers; follow up and process payments.
  • Assist with phone sales, verifying payments, and past due balances.
  • Work with other departments to manage rollovers and cancellations for existing reservations.
  • Act with tact, diplomacy, and glowing attitude when dealing with internal and external customers.
  • Strive to give accurate information 100% of the time.
  • Keep VS management team informed of all staff and guest requests, comments, and concerns.
  • Work VS management team to successfully facilitate new hire onboarding. 
  • Effectively markets Kentucky Science Center products and programs to the public.
  • Enter transactions accurately into the sales system.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and well-stocked work area.
  • Communicate and work as a team with co-workers and/or volunteers to ensure smooth operation.
  • Provide on call coverage for floor staff and troubleshooting of POS.
  • We are open seven days a week and some evenings and holidays.
  • Report to work as scheduled and successfully manage timed tasks.

 

Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must have a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays
  • One to two years cash handling and supervisory experience required. Retail experience preferred.
  • Experience in an office environment, including answering the phones and data entry.
  • A working knowledge of Point-of-Sale systems and standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to a positive visitor experience.
  • Able to work efficiently without direct supervision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule: we are a seven day a week operation.
  • Problem and puzzle solving skills in both physical and electronic formats.
  • A team player with high emotional intelligence.
  • A love for continuous learning and growth.

Additional Information

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

  • Part-time, non-exempt position, working 16-29 hours per week.
  • Starting pay $17 per hour.
