Visitor Services Associate

General Responsibilities

The Visitor Services Associate is the first point of contact for visitors coming to Bonnet House and must provide a positive first impression. The position is responsible for the smooth operation of the Welcome Center and South Gate and helps coordinate the day-to-day details of public tours with appropriate staff members and volunteers. When assigned to The Museum Shop the associate is responsible for greeting visitors and processing sales. This position is a cross-trained position covering both the museum shop and welcome center. This dual position reports to the Visitor Services and Administrative Manager.

Duties -

1. Open and set up Museum Shop/Welcome Center/South Gate register and secure banks.

2. Greet Museum Shop, Welcome Center and South Gate visitors.

3. Give directional information.

4. Answer visitor questions.

5. Coordinate activities in the Museum Shop, Welcome Center and South Gate.

6. Open/close the gate for public tours.

7. Promote and sell memberships at Welcome Center, South Gate and Museum Shop.

8. Sell merchandise and artwork displayed at both the Welcome Center and Museum Shop.

9. Maintain an accurate inventory of Gift Shop merchandise.

10. Maintain a clean and dust free Museum Shop, Welcome Center and South Gate.

11. Close cash drawer at close of business day.

12. Take receipts, report and bank to Visitor Services and Administrative Manager.

13. Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Skills

1. Experience in using cash register or POS system and handling cash/credit card transactions.

2. Good arithmetic skills.

3. Comfortable working with a variety of people.

4. Good organizational and decision-making skills.

5. Ability to work with minimal supervision.

6. Punctuality.

Requirements

1. High School Diploma/GED.

2. Minimum of one year cash handling experience.

3. Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

4. Outgoing personality and pleasant demeanor.

5. Fluent in English

6. Ability to stand, walk without aid, climb stars, lift objects weighing 20 lbs. or less and carry them short distances.

7. Flexible work schedule. Weekends required.

8. Trustworthy.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.45 per hour

Expected hours: 10 – 19 per week
