Visiting Associate Director ofthe Mathematical Sciences Internship Network- Mathematics

The Internship Network in the Mathematical Sciences (INMAS),which is funded by NSF and has hubs at the University of Illinois and JohnsHopkins University, connects industry partners with graduate student talent totransform graduate students' career readiness while strengthening the nation'sinnovation ecosystem. The Associate Director works closely with the Director of INMASMidwest (Professor Richard Laugesen) to connect universities and industry toarrange graduate internships in companies and government labs through theInternship Network in the Mathematical Sciences (INMAS); contacts and meets with employers, recruitsand mentors students, including coordination of training workshops, andmonitoring internship outcomes. TheAssociate Director interacts with students throughout the year, from initialadmission to training workshops to resume reviews and on to internshipplacement.
Duties & Responsibilities
Internship development -
• Develop internship opportunities for Mathematical Sciences students at host organizations in industry.
• Match INMAS students to the internship projects.
• Serve as INMAS point of contact for interns and company hosts.
• Assist interns and hosts in navigating employment and intellectual property concerns.
• Oversee internship reporting requirements.
Project management role -
• Co-organize INMAS training workshops, participate in them, and assist with the instructional components if qualified to do so.
• Coordinate with the external assessment consultant.
• Assist with report writing and publicizing INMAS activities.
• Suggest improvements to the program, and opportunities for expansion.
• Provide help and support to the PI and colleagues as needed.
Networking / relationship building -
• Work with stakeholders at the node universities in Illinois and nearby states to recruit graduate students in
the Mathematical Sciences, learn their interests, and develop their professional skills.
• Work with the PI of the INMAS network to create and cultivate a network of partners in industry and academia.
• Share knowledge, materials, and industry connections with node university personnel to support their career development efforts.
Some travel is expected. Some evening and weekend work will be required.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a mathematical, statistical, engineering or scientific field with two years professional work experience beyond the degree. Experience coordinating complex projects or assisting students in solving problems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters or ABD/PhD in a mathematical, statistical, engineering or scientific field including information sciences, or a business, management or analytics field.
  • Broad basic knowledge in mathematics or statistics, preferably in modern science and technology.
  • Desire to pursue a career outside of academic research and teaching.
  • Strong administrative skills and committed attention to detail.
  • Enthusiastic self-starter with strong commitment to task completion.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others
  • A good listener, and highly ethical.
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion of women and underrepresented minorities.
  • Team player who enjoys talking with and motivating people.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities while bringing multiple tasks to completion on deadline.

Appointment Information
This is an AcademicProfessional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. It is preferred that theposition be at 100% full-time but a part-time appointment could beconsidered. The expected start date is as soon as possibleafter the deadline date.
The target salary range for thisposition is $60,000 - $85,000. Final salary offered will be determined by athorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidateexperience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budgetconstraints. Sponsorship for Work authorization is not available for thisposition.
