The HHD Department is one of the largest departments at Western.  There are approximately 500 undergraduates enrolled in the three programs of Public Health, Recreation Management and Leadership, and Kinesiology and Physical Education (KPE). The KPE program includes three undergraduate majors including a B.S. in Kinesiology: Sport Psychology, two minors including Sport Psychology, and two graduate program options, including a M.S. in Kinesiology: Sport and Exercise Psychology. The department's faculty members are dedicated to teaching, involved in research, and active in professional organizations. About the Position The Kinesiology and Physical Education Program in the Department of Health and Human Development (HHD) at Western Washington University is seeking qualified candidates for a one-year, Visiting Assistant Professor of Sport and Exercise Psychology for the 2024-2025 academic year beginning in September 2024. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching 34-37 credits over three quarters (Fall, Winter, Spring) depending on their qualifications. The expected teaching load is 9 face-to-face courses a year with additional course credit in graduate SEP practicum supervision (if qualified) and service in graduate thesis mentorship. Additional face-to-face courses are possible during the Spring quarter 2025 and Summer 2025 terms. Required Qualifications
  • PhD/EdD or ABD status in Sport and Exercise Psychology or related field
  • Demonstrated potential to teach undergraduate courses in Sport and Exercise Psychology and sport sociology
  • Evidence of the ability to mentor master's level research/theses
  • Evidence of the ability to commit to cultivating learning environments that are equitable and inclusive of students from diverse backgrounds and social identities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current CMPC certification with approved mentor status to supervise graduate students in SEP practicum
  • Personal experience in applied Sport and Exercise Psychology work with individuals and teams
  • Experience in SEP or related field practicum supervision
  • Experience in master's thesis committee work or research mentorship
  • Demonstrated ability to teach one or more classes such as: Psychology of Sport, Psychology of Exercise, Sociology of Sport, Seminar in Sport and Exercise Psychology, Ethics in Sport and Exercise Psychology, Sport and Exercise Psychology Practicum

Salary

$1,178-$1,324 per credit, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Up to $1374 per credit with exceptional teaching experience with PhD.
