UW Medicine's Strategic Marketing and Communications team is committed to providing integrated, strategic marketing and communications in support of UW Medicine's mission and organizational priorities. UW Medicine is an internationally recognized health care leader and includes Harborview Medical Center, Northwest Hospital & Medical Center, Valley Medical Center, UW Medical Center, UW Neighborhood Clinics, School of Medicine, UW Physicians and Airlift Northwest.
The strategic communications team is seeking a skilled videographer/editor/storyteller (payroll title: Public Information Editor) who will be responsible for telling the UW Medicine story using video and audio in a manner that is engaging, informational, and newsworthy. The successful candidate will be part of the media team to help identify and recommend news stories that they will videotape and/or audio tape and edit for UW Medicine's online news bureau (Newsroom). The videographer works with a video producer/writer, and media team members who pitch the news videos to media with accompanying studies, expert interviews on trending topics or other clinical or research news. This work helps advance the reputation of UW Medicine. The position will report to the director of UW Medicine Media Relations.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience shooting and editing broadcast quality videos geared toward and distributed to local and national media. The position will be called upon to work independently to build a library of video assets. The position is responsible for scouting appropriate locations and working with subject experts to help guide them in providing concise expert video soundbites on a topic and telling the most compelling patient or staff story for video. Additional skills will be setting up computers for Office 365, Adobe Creative suite and maintaining a video storage server.
Video news stories developed for the Newsroom will cover areas focusing on trending news in research, education and clinical care and will be distributed to local and national media for use. Topics may range from consumer news, education, and clinical activities to highly scientific research and discoveries. Videos must be shot and edited to fit the format for news bureaus and outlets and packaged for use by other UW Medicine channels, including social and digital platforms. There will be times that the work also includes development of an internal video for staff on priority initiatives.
This person will interface across all levels of UW Medicine in a variety of areas and environments and will need to be able to work with all individuals including executives, clinicians, patients, students, researchers and others across UW Medicine and other areas of the University as well. The candidate must be well-versed in directing and communicating with on-camera participants to obtain the best interview possible.
Video stories promoted in our Newsroom will be made available to local and national media, which will further enhance UW Medicine's stellar reputation as a leading academic center known for its research, education, and clinical care.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work within a team to identify, recommend, and develop news stories and independently direct and manage video shoots on location.
• Direct on-camera participants to produce impactful personal and informational videos.
• Shoot and edit news-oriented videos based on media relations priority areas and breaking and/or trending news.
• Shoot and edit background video to enhance the news bureau library and other channels and needs for the department.
• Work with the creative team at times to advance the use of graphics and other visuals to enhance the clarity of information shared.
• Use a variety of software packages to edit video and audio.
• Edit and package news videos to fit the format of our other platforms, including social and digital.
• Identify and recommend appropriate video equipment for purchase.
• Operate video equipment on location at one of UW Medicine entities, such as our hospitals, clinics, research labs, or in studio.
• Take video from rough cut to finish.
• Work with the video producer/writer and media relations team to coordinate video news shoots and ensure projects are in line with budget and timelines.
• Work with the video producer/editor and media team to organize existing UW Medicine stock footage for our newsroom and edit for packaging.
• Shoot new stock video based on the priority needs of the media team and as needed.
• Obtain stock footage, music and images and obtain proper licensing for assets when needed and within our current contracts for use, such as Getty.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree in Film/Video/Media Production, or related experience.
• 5+ years of video shooting, production and editing in the TV broadcast field.
Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum requirements.
Additional requirements:
• Possess strong creative and storytelling skills.
• Experience with lighting in a variety of environments.
• Excellent location, sound gathering, and lighting skills are required.
• Experience with color grading with Adobe Premiere Pro for the finished videos.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. Health care environment is preferred. Ability to work effectively with all levels of employees, including senior leaders.
• Possess a high level of customer service to both internal and external customers.
• Experience in pre-production, production, and post-production processes.
• Experience with all production equipment including audio and lighting equipment for off location and studio production.
• Knowledge of various video cameras and video equipment.
• Experience developing and managing budgets for video/film shoots as needed.
• Knowledge of video, audio, and motion graphics technologies.
Software Requirement:
• Proficient in the Mac environment and Adobe Creative Cloud.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience with Adobe After Effects.
