Job description

The Atlantic Council seeks a talented, motivated, and creative Video & Production Assistant. This person will help manage ACTV, our app and web platform for video content, and produce videos for the platform and for social media distribution. They will also be a key member of the team that produces “Atlantic Council Front Page”, our flagship interview program that features heads of state, government officials, and other newsmakers. The Production Assistant will also help produce short videos and highlight clips.


The ideal candidate will possess strong video editing skills and a grasp of how to write posts and edit video for social media and digital platforms. They should have a strong interest in foreign affairs and international news, and a sense of what makes a good story. They will thrive in a collaborative team environment and be excited about being involved in every aspect of planning, production, and post-production. They will be highly organized with strong attention to detail and an ability to multitask and prioritize across overlapping deadlines.


This job is based in Washington, DC on a hybrid schedule. Pay is commensurate with experience, education, and organizational equity, with offers starting at $50,000.


Job Responsibilities



The video and Production Assistant will work with the AC Front Page produce on the day-to-day editorial and logistical details of Atlantic Council Front Page, including but not limited to:


  • Research, pitch, and track guest ideas and discussion topics for Atlantic Council Front Page.
  • Work with the AC Front Page Producer and wider Engagement Team to plan and execute each episode from start to finish, helping coordinate logistics and content for in-person, hybrid, and virtual shows.
  • Draft invitations for heads of state and government, business leaders, and other high-profile figures to appear on the show.
  • Coordinate with guests, moderators, experts, and other stakeholders to ensure success of the show.
  • Edit b-roll and photos, order graphics and other production elements for each show.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to write briefing memos and questions for moderators and guests.
  • Write and edit show descriptions for the website, email newsletters, and YouTube posts, ensuring a high-quality and consistent user experience.
  • Identify key moments from shows and edit highlight clips for email and social media distribution.

The Production Assistant will also edit videos and post them to ACTV and YouTube, and they will select and edit short clips from Atlantic Council events and other content to promote on social media. They will assist with other major events and video projects as assigned, including developing new video programming.


Qualifications
  • 1+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, International Relations, Foreign Affairs or related field.
  • Ability to edit video using Adobe Premiere and ability to edit photos using Photoshop. Video shooting capability and familiarity with remote video recording preferred.
  • Strong research skills, news sense, and creativity.
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills, with high attention to detail.
  • An interest in international affairs.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work well with a team in a dynamic environment and ability to work independently and proactively while balancing multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to work well with senior officials, scholars, journalists, staff, and interns.
  • Familiarity with YouTube, Vimeo, Twitter, Instagram, and other digital platforms.
  • Excellent English language written and oral communication skills.
