- Video Evidence Technician maintains video and audio evidence files: primarily tasked with researching, locating, reviewing, redacting, and coping videos to required media formats in compliance with established regulations. Information is released upon request.
- Prepares recorded evidence information for use, presents to others, and testifies about evidence in court. May be requested or subpoenaed to testify in criminal, civil and administrative proceedings.
- Monitors and researches laws, rules, procedures, and emerging technologies to develop and recommend improved policy, methodologies and procedures for collection and information development.
- Video Evidence Technician maintains knowledge base of current laws and policies to help minimize liability on the City of Chesapeake and Police Department.
- Conducts administrative functions such as recording statistical information, compiling reports, performing specialized studies, coordinating with other agencies or the public, and maintaining logs and forms.
- Will execute policies and procedures for record retention and destruction in accordance with Library of Virginia, City of Chesapeake and Chesapeake Police Department.
- Responds to Freedom of information Act [FOIA] requests, Motion for Discovery requests, and Subpoena Duces Tecums.
- Conducts expunging of Video Evidence in accordance with expungement orders.
- Attends in-service training and technical or professional classes, seminars, or conferences to improve technical or professional skills.
- Maintains video editing equipment and troubleshoots problems to determine solutions.
May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.
Requires high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education in forensic science or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCEREQUIREMENT:
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of one year of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIALCERTIFICATIONSANDLICENSES:
Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with theCity Driving Standards.
SPECIALREQUIREMENTS:
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
