Video Encoding Intern, Cloud Games (Summer 2024)

Netflix recently launched its Cloud Gaming platform as a limited beta, and we are looking to scale the initiative both in terms of member joy as well as platform efficiency.

As a Video Encoding Intern, you will be actively involved in the development of the Netflix Cloud GamesVideo Encoding pipeline. The main focus of this domain is to maximize cloud gaming QoE, as efficiently as possible, and this will require innovation on a number of Video Encoding and video quality related topics. This will be hands-on work, you should be familiar with Video Encoding, low level programming in C/C++, and squeezing performance from constrained systems. ML-based image processing experience is a bonus.

About You:

• Current student pursuing an MS/MA or PhD in a technical field such as Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or Statistics - with an expected graduation date around December 2024 or Spring/Summer 2025.
• Thrives in a fast-paced environment 
• Clear communicator - you are concise and articulate in speech and writing
• Has excellent software development skills, Comfortable with software engineering best practices (e.g. version control, testing, code review, etc.)
• A successful track record in Video Algorithms and Coding research or adjacent fields (Computer Graphics, Video Processing, Computer Vision, Video Quality)

Bonus points:

• Experience with cloud gaming or game streaming
• Experience with software performance optimization on constrained hardware
• Experience with hardware video encoders and SoCs
• Involvement in open-source multimedia projects (ffmpeg, etc)
• Experience with image and video quality assessment

Internships are paid and are a minimum of 12 weeks, with a choice of a few fixed start dates in May or June 2024 to accommodate varying school calendars. Conditions permitting, our 2024 summer internships will be located in our Los Gatos, CA office, or in our Los Angeles, CA office, depending on the team.

We rely on market indicators to determine compensation and consider your specific job, skills, and experience to get it right. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary and will also be dependent on your location.

The overall market range for Netflix Internships is typically $40/hour - $110/hour. This market range is based on total compensation (vs. only base salary), which is in line with our compensation philosophy.
