Summary
About the Position: This position is located at the US ARMY 1ST SPECIAL FORCES COMMAND 3D SPECIAL FORCES GROUP in Fort Liberty, North Carolina.

Duties
  • Serves as a Victim Advocate (SHARP) for Army Brigades, providing comprehensive assistance and liaison to victims of sexual assault and sexual harassment.
  • Conducts assessments with clients to evaluate need and risks.
  • Provides advocacy and educational services primarily to Army personnel, family members, DoD civilians OCONUS, and contractor personnel in a deployed environment outside the Brigade.
  • Recognizes the need for professional intervention and refers to appropriate services.
  • Accompanies victims and provides support in securing medical treatment, safe shelter, protective orders, court hearings, educational, transportation, financial services, and follow-up assistance.
  • Provides support before, during, and after trials.
  • Conducts interactive training workshops/seminars to victims, community agencies, and the organization.

Requirements
Conditions of Employment
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A secret clearance is required.
  • This is a drug testing position.
  • TDY may be up to 25%.
  • Requires off-duty hour support to include a 24-hour rotation for advocacy services to victims.
  • Must successfully complete 7-week SHARP training course and obtain DOD certification within 6-months of hire.
  • Individuals will be screened by the National Sex Offender Registry.
  • Individuals will be screened by the through the Crime Records Center and the Army Central Registry for a history of domestic violence, CID, local police, Army Military Human Resources, Army Inspector General, Army Substance Abuse Program.
  • Individuals will be screened through previous employer reference checks and as appropriate an official personnel folder check will be conducted.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Employee must pass a medical examination and receive required immunizations for the overseas/deployment locations.
  • This is a Emergency Essential position.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirements:
Degree: Behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of education and experience - that provided the application with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
OR
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
AND
Specialized Experience:
One year of specialized experience in 1). Providing professional advocacy services to victims or survivors of sexual assault and sexual harassment; 2). Experience in conducting assessments with clients to evaluate needs and risks; 3). Experience in recognizing the need for professional intervention and referring to appropriate services and maintaining partnerships in the community; AND 4). Experience in conducting training/seminars on sexual assault/sexual harassment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
Education

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

How You Will Be Evaluated
You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
