The Role
As Vice President, Travel PR at J/PR, you’re equally as comfortable acting as the face and leader of our largest accounts as you are leading pitches, guiding senior leaders throughout the agency, and providing oversight on agency culture initiatives. Your consistent and solid team leadership creates a culture of trust, growth, teamwork and results. At this level, you are responsible for account profitability and oversee / guide all add ons and additional projects, have a proven ability to think big/creatively across categories, collaborate with multiple agency teams, and act as a lead voice in new business efforts. You also provide insight into the ongoing education in the agency, connecting those who coordinate the learning opportunities with people in your network, as well as offering input on topics, themes, and needs for retreats and workshops.
Duties and Responsibilities
Account + Client Management
- From a strategic level, have a keen awareness of the day-to-day client activities, communication, research, planning, implementation and evaluation of public relations activities, and pay close attention that the Account Supervisors are hitting budgets, managing resources, making deadlines and exceeding client expectations
- Lead the strategy and creativity sessions for press worthy programs, partnerships and ideas for clients, and set the Account Supervisors and managers up for success in implementing the campaigns
- Offer final approval on all comprehensive public relations programs and plans, ensuring they are that are well-organized and well-written, with detailed time and dollar budgets that are appropriate to client needs
- Maintain and grow deep relationships with clients, field mission-critical calls, lead appropriate planning and strategy sessions, and offer expertise, guidance and counsel across a broad range of topics
- Have a proven ability to lead programs and manage others to deliver high-quality thinking and results quickly and within tight timetables
- Help account teams work effectively and in the best interests of the client, while maximizing the agency’s network of resources to enhance client service and account structure
- Stay up to date on trends in our industries by following websites, blogs, daily/weekly newsletters and shares findings with clients, teams and the agency
- Grow accounts to be more profitable by increasing retainers, adding on projects and having a complete awareness of how the accounts are tracking through Harvest
- Provide feedback for the account breakdowns and staffing levels of your office; ensuring accounts are profitable, running smoothly and staffed accordingly
Media Relations
- Have media / industry insight, knowing exactly who to go to for any story idea (which you share with your teams for education and execution), and having the relationships to see the ideas through to execution
- Have solid understanding of social media, J/PR’s social media capabilities and how social weaves into all of your integrated accounts/campaigns
Leadership
- Manage direct report(s), providing leadership, guidance, feedback and coaching to direct report(s) and account teams both in person and remotely
- Offer recommendations for staff promotions
- Be an active participant in the hiring process through recruiting, interviewing and checking references
- Advocate for employees and bring any issues in growth, development, attitude and overall satisfaction to the appropriate parties
- Grow your team and ensure that their development and job satisfaction are two major objectives
- Create and foster a learning environment and offer sound advice, suggestions and guidance to the supporting staff members
- Lead by example and offer the guidance, resources and motivation needed to grow other team members into established managers and leaders within the company
New Business
- Act as an active participant in sourcing, going after, pitching and securing new business alongside the Partners
- Assist in the development of new business proposals through brainstorming, ideation, tactics, scope and any other relevant information needed to prepare a successful proposal
J/PR / Industry
- Attend workshops, media events, webinars and conferences on behalf of J/PR and its clients, furthering J/PR’s presence in the industry and among our peers
- Offer the entire agency, internationally, guidance, insight and encouragement
- Consistently look for ways to further innovate and lead the agency through new ideas, procedures, offerings, benefits, resources and any ways to help our teams work efficiently
- Dedicate time and energy to a specific industry within travel, lifestyle and hospitality and is seen as an industry expert among colleagues and peers
- Work with Finance in the profitability of accounts, hitting J/PR goals, contracting, scopes of work, etc.
- Develop, spearhead and create programs, events, retreats and activities that enhance J/PR’s culture
- Responsible for developing two educational based workshops each year
Other
- And other tasks, projects, or duties as required
Experience
- College Degree or comparable experience required
- At least 13 years of public relations experience in the hospitality, culinary, travel, tourism, restaurant and/or consumer lifestyle arenas
- Agency and/or in-house experience is a plus
- Must have stellar client and media references
- Must have strong and proven relationships with local, regional and national media contacts
- Must have strong, effective and proven management skills
Requirements
- Ability to travel for client needs
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint & Adobe Suite

- Ability to think strategically but act tactically
- Solid leadership and coaching skills
- Must have a valid passport for international travel
Benefits
J/PR offers a competitive benefits package, including:
- Competitive base salary: $120,000 - $130,000, commensurate with experience
