*THIS IS POSITION IS MOSTLY REMOTE WITH LOCATION PREFERENCE LOCAL TO WASHINGTON DC; WILLING TO WORK FROM ALEXANDRIA, VA HQ UPON REQUEST*   

     

POSITION SUMMARY    

The Vice President of People and Culture directs and implements a human capital strategy that is aligned with EO’s values and organizational objectives. This position provides integral HR leadership and human capital management with a high degree of customer service. The Vice President, People and Culture is responsible for providing high-quality HR services to EO’s global staff, driving employee engagement, and ensuring equitable outcomes for all team members. This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer and oversees a team of four direct employees.     

     

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES    

     

Culture and Staff Engagement     

  • Provide leadership at the Executive Team level for culture change management efforts, guiding employees on what it looks like to live out our organizational values in all decisions and processes. 
  • Ensure the design and application of programs and systems that foster a workplace environment consistent with EO’s global mission and core values.  
  • Drive alignment between staff and member learning, training, leadership development, and culture adoption 
  • Develop organizational framework for aligning staff goals and human capital resources to EO’s strategic, long term vision enabling accountability, transparency, and collaboration
  • Ensure the health and vibrancy of EO staff through leadership and professional mentoring and access to coaching and counseling.  
  • Provide strategy and lead adoption of a highly effective orientation program that emphasizes the critical importance of welcoming and integrating new staff into EO’s culture. 
  • Design and implement employee wellness and engagement programs that enhance employee morale and assist EO in retaining qualified and contributing employees worldwide, with culture awareness and sensitivity.  
  • Partner with leadership to develop and implement effective DEI strategies that embrace and incorporate inclusive and equitable management practices. 
     

Leadership and Global Human Resources Guidance     

  • Serve as the lead executive partner with the Board’s Human Capital Advisory Council to guide the Board on issues related to executive recruitment, executive performance, executive remuneration, Board performance, and general human capital issues and trends affecting EO.
  • Establish and monitor the strategic vision and execution of the People and Culture department, ensuring goals and work plans are met in support of EO’s strategic goals.  
  • Ensure that EO’s infrastructure, policies, and systems are implemented and standardized to effectively support EO’s global strategy.  
  • Oversee the maintenance and update of EO’s internal human resources control processes that ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures, federal, state, and local regulations, audit, and reporting requirements.  
  • Advise executive leadership and managers on human resources global compliance matters, providing regular risk assessments of EO’s employment policies, procedures, and practices.  
  • Develop and coach a team of human resources professionals to earn a high level of credibility as an effective and responsive department.  
  • Establish and maintain effective processes to address global employee relations and performance issues and to mediate workplace concerns. 
  • Develop and oversee management of the annual HR budget.  

     

     

Employee Compensation and Benefits      

  • Ensure that the compensation and benefits programs are effectively designed, developed, and communicated to keep EO competitive in the global community.  
  • Oversee and maintain a comprehensive program of effective job design and annual performance evaluation linked to EO’s over-arching goals and corresponds appropriately to the compensation framework.  
  • Direct supervisors in setting individual salaries fairly and equitably using appropriate market data, salary ranges, and organizational context. 
  • Direct the development and administration of benefits programs, including medical, disability, term life, and retirement.  

     

     

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED    

     

Professional Experience     

  • A successful track record in creating, organizing, and implementing a human resources strategy with an international organization operating in 20+ countries. 
  • Broad-based leadership and management experience within a human resources department; experience with learning and development and compensation and benefits administration.  
  • Proven experience in the design and administration of human resources management and development of systems and procedures.  
  • Ability to work with leadership and employees to help build and maintain a positive work environment that encourages the full use of diverse global talents and abilities.  
  • Ability to thrive and maintain effectiveness in a fast-paced, changing organizational environment. 
  • Business acumen and the ability to resolve problems creatively and logically, to synthesize material and focus quickly on the essence of any issue and the means to address it, and to translate ideas into action with strong results orientation, regardless of location.  
  • Ability to provide leadership on policies and procedures and present information (orally and written) clearly and consistently to current and future global staff employees.  

     

Skills and Characteristics     

  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master’s degree and a minimum of 12 years of experience in human resources, organizational development, or another related field.  
  • Proactive, results-driven, collaborative, and people-centric. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work directly with senior management and the global Board of Directors to support EO’s business strategy and provide advice and counsel.  
  • A team builder and facilitator who is skilled at working in a collaborative global environment; someone who imparts great credibility, good judgment, and integrity and can similarly motivate others.  
  • Ability to travel internationally as requested (average 2-3 trips per year).  

     

Preferred Experience     

  • Knowledge of member association lifecycles. 
  • Experience in the international nonprofit sector.
