Job description

Summary: Develops and implements strategies, initiatives and associated activities to drive scale and efficiency and better customer outcomes for the organization. Provides leadership to the Operations team to embrace new practices, encourage a process-thinking mindset and promote best-practice sharing across departments while meeting the objectives of the organization and striving for best-in-class.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Acts as a servant leader and provides direction to the manufacturing, engineering and maintenance teams at both facilities.
  • Plans, directs and coordinates the manufacturing of products in compliance with company goals and objectives.
  • Organizes and directs workflow for satisfying production requirements in a cost efficient manner.
  • Investigates and analyzes current manufacturing processes. Establishes and maintains appropriate metrics for measuring necessary aspects of operational management, development, and improvement.
  • Develops and implements process improvement initiatives designed to maximize the efficient use of materials, machinery and employees through the disciplined use of measurements, accountability, analysis, and discussion of process alternatives.
  • Interacts regularly and proactively communicates internally and externally to resolve process and operations issues promptly, optimize results, and create successful collaborative environment.
  • Achieves performance improvement by monitoring execution against standards and providing adequate training and development opportunities to associates.
  • Reviews, analyzes and prepares manufacturing specifications and plant capacity data to determine manufacturing processes, facility requirements and staffing needed.
  • Manages manufacturing capital expenditures including identification, prioritization, budgeting, and implementation with support from direct reports and cross functional teams.

Qualifications:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience:

  • Four-year college or university program in Business Management, Engineering or a related field of study (advanced degree preferred) and ten or more years of related multi-faceted experience and/or training in a manufacturing environment (preferably in the Aluminum Industry) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Expertise in ISO 9001, Quality Systems, Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement and Process Optimization.
  • In-depth knowledge of diverse business functions and principles (e.g. manufacturing, supply chain, finance, customer service, etc.)


Language Ability:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, blueprints or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


Math Ability:

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Computer Skills:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook). Previous experience working with manufacturing / operations software preferred.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Manages 2-4 subordinate supervisors who supervise a total of 125 to 150 employees in the Manufacturing Department, Maintenance Department, and Engineering Department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; risk of electrical shock and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, in manufacturing areas, the noise level requires hearing protection.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit.
