JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) seeks a dynamic and visionary executive to serve as its next Vice President forInformation Technology and Chief Information Officer (VPIT/CIO). The VPIT/CIO will report to the Senior Vice President for Finance and Business/Treasurer. The VPIT/CIO will be expected to drive innovative solutions that support the University's strategic and operational goals. The VPIT/CIO will lead a large IT staff that supports enterprise academic and administrative computing, systems and infrastructure, information security, and end-user support services. The successful candidate will develop and maintain an appropriate IT organizational structure that supports the needs of the University and will be responsible for effectively and efficiently serving University stakeholders. Some of the strategic and operational leadership duties include:
  • Oversee implementation of IT services and provide strategic leadership for IT initiatives that support the academic mission and strategic goals.
  • Lead collaboratively, empower teams, and foster a culture of excellence, inclusion, and service.
  • Provide strategic organizational leadership, balancing needs related to centralization, shared and distributed services, and customization.
  • Facilitate IT governance practices and procedures.
  • Optimize IT investments through portfolio management, resource allocation, and effective partnerships across IT functions while seeking operational efficiencies and innovation.
  • Ensure the reliability and security of IT systems and infrastructure and develop risk management and disaster strategies.
  • Enhance IT service delivery and system reliability and resiliency to enable anytime, anywhere access to IT services and resources.
  • Leverage technologies to enrich teaching and learning, improve research capabilities, enhance student services and campus life, and further institutional priorities.

The successful candidate will possess significant relevant experience in positions with increasing levels of responsibility, including a minimum of 5-7 years as a senior IT leader in a complex organization. A related master's level degree is preferred. The individual will be a strategic thinker with exceptional planning skills and an ability to translate those plans into action. They will be an excellent communicator and collaborator that has demonstrated diplomacy in persuading and influencing a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.
CAMPUS SECURITY CRIME STATISTICS:
Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.
