Job description

We are Braven Partners, an early-stage investment firm targeting breakthrough innovations in large, regulated sectors, beginning with financial services, insurance, and healthcare. At Braven, we run regular Innovation Programs that bring together sector analysts, experts, and advisors to surface new technological and commercial solutions to meaningful problems. Our latest Innovation Program is converting to a new stealth company launch, “BRVN-01,” a first-of-its-kind AI platform to manage insurable business risk.

We seek an experienced and entrepreneurial founding team member who will serve as VP of Carrier Development. They will be responsible for building strategic partnerships and alliances with carriers, brokers and other relevant players in the industry, along with using their experience and insights to shape our product strategy from concept to customer. This role is initially an individual contributor and expected to be extremely hands-on, using a lean approach consistent with a seed round startup.

This is a unique opportunity for an exceptional and charismatic leader to join in the very early stages of building an innovative new company. As part of the Braven portfolio, Improbable will benefit from a dedicated cobuild team focused on accelerating and supporting its success. It is imperative that early team members are passionate contributors who bring a founder/start-up mentality. The journey is just beginning, and your unique contributions will profoundly shape our trajectory.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Design, implement and lead cross-functional strategy to define the overarching partnership and alliance strategy
  • Convert both existing and new relationships with carriers, reinsurers and other cover holds as well as brokers and enterprises into partnerships and key alliances
  • Identify emerging trends to support both the short and long-term strategy for BRVN-01, backed by market research, competitive analysis, and customer feedback analysis
  • Provide inputs for product roadmap, enhancements and updates by conducting user research, gathering feedback, and iterating on features to champion a user-first approach
  • Actively seek opportunity to act as an evangelist and ambassador within the broader insurance industry

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

  • Proven track record with at least 10 years of commercial P&C insurance experience. This should manifest into current knowledge of key drivers and incentives for carriers, reinsurers, and other cover holders, built on your experience and ongoing relationships
  • At least 4 years experience underwriting for commercial P&C insurance; nice to have would be experience with or familiarity with pricing and underwriting technologies
  • The ability to adapt swiftly to new challenges, acquire knowledge rapidly, integrate seamlessly into new settings, and exceed expectations. We value innovators who can make a significant impact.
  • A solid track record of high performance, marked by achievements realized through comprehensive information gathering, incisive analysis, hypothesis formulation, rigorous testing, and compelling communication of recommendations.

TOTAL REWARDS - BASE SALARY + FOUNDING TEAM EQUITY

  • In addition to a competitive base salary consistent with a seed round startup, you will be eligible for Founding team equity with potentially significant upside

KEY ATTRIBUTES OF FOUNDING TEAM MEMBERS

  • Product visionary with business outcomes orientation - has a passion for driving the product strategy to deliver value for customers and profitable revenue growth for the business
  • Possesses a growth mindset, innate curiosity, and robust problem-solving skills, continuously staying informed about emerging trends to identify potential opportunities
  • Is a creative problem solver who excels at identifying trends and patterns, diagnosing root causes, and employing a diverse toolkit to address those root causes
  • Is a courageous teammate, eager to push boundaries and venture into the unknown to achieve exceptional results that others may not have the foresight or ability to envision
  • Excels at bringing structure to ambiguity, prioritizing tasks, managing projects, and adopting a results-driven approach to work (testing, measuring, iterating)
  • Delivers 10x results by applying systems thinking and data analysis to create massive scale with quality and consistency in a deliberate manner
  • Leads by example, instilling a sense of energy, ownership, and personal commitment to work, while exhibiting both diplomatic and directive qualities
  • Demonstrated excellence as a storyteller capable of translating complex topics to varied audiences in compelling, innovative, and informative ways
  • Has a high EQ, enjoys networking and building relationships with thought-leaders, researchers and practitioners in their respective fields
  • Demonstrates the ability to think and operate effectively under high-stress situations.
