Job description

  • Provides medical care to animals used in support of lab project goals. 
  • Exercises independent professional judgment in the assessment of animal health and consults with veterinarians and investigators regarding appropriate diagnosis, therapy, and management. 
  • Assists in the planning, implementation, and modification of animal use in experiments. 
  • Works directly with the veterinarians and interacts with staff, residents, medical students, and other personnel using the animal facilities to exchange information and resolve problems. 
  • Serves as a surgical tech in the operating room, administering anesthesia and providing postoperative care. 
  • Trains residents/fellows/temporary lab personnel in laboratory animal methodology. 
  • Responsible for maintaining anesthetic, surgical, and radiological equipment and medical supplies, including pharmaceuticals. 
  • Additional duties may be assigned as the required to fulfill departmental responsibilities.
