United Veterinary Care Veterinary Technology Externships provide a great opportunity for veterinary technician students to gain hands-on clinical experience and education through clinical applications. Through our array of specialty and general practices, students will accompany talented credentialed nurses, technicians, and assistants while being involved in the day-to-day operations of the hospital. UVC has more than 100 locations and over 3000 passionate veterinary professionals eagerly awaiting your arrival!
UNPAID EXTERNSHIP FOR VETERINARY TECHNOLOGY STUDENTS!
Mid Island Animal Hospital is an extraordinary general practice providing a great learning environment for our future veterinary technicians and nurses! Veterinary Technology externship students will receive hands-on training working with small animals. Students will gain experience in understanding the veterinary client patient relationship (VCPR) while working closely with skilled senior level veterinarian and technician leadership.
Program Expectations:
Students can expect to learn and assist in performing the following:
- History Notation
- Client Communications
- Physical examination
- Therapeutic plans & therapies (IV Fluids, Drugs, and Physical)
- Surgical procedures and anesthesia
- Diagnostic imaging (radiology and ultrasonography)
- Dental cleaning and evaluation
- Laboratory procedures (Fecal analysis, CBCs, Chemistry, and Urinalysis)
- Preventative care
PROGRAM PERK:
Externship students will receive an externship start pack filled with UVC swag, technician tools, and learning resources. Students will also have access to the UVC Learning & Development veterinary technician modules, lectures, and courses in preparation for the VTNE.
Requirements & Eligibility:
UVC Veterinary Technology Program requires students to be enrolled in their second year or equivalent of an accredited veterinary technician program and must commit to no less than 200 externship hours. Candidates applying to the externship must submit a resume, have strong communication skills, be able to work well with staff, and be at least 18 years of age upon acceptance into the externship.
