SalaryGENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Assist the Manager of the Veterans Services Office (VSO) in overseeing the efficient and effective management and daily operation of the VSO to ensure services are delivered to veterans, their dependents, and widows/widowers. Duties also include the management of public assistance programs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Interprets federal and state laws on veterans’ benefits to determine eligibility. Renders service to veterans and their dependents in preparing and filing claim forms, and legal briefs for appeals.
- Coordinates the medical care of veterans with hospitals and clinics. Assist in the administration of public assistance programs as directed by the VSO Manager.
- Confers with representatives of various federal, state and local agencies on matters related to veterans' benefits as directed. Assists other veterans’ organizations Service Officers and post commanders as directed.
- Performs public relations responsibilities by speaking at various civic and veterans’ organizations as directed. Performs legislative liaison responsibilities as requested by county or congressional representatives as directed. Assists in the supervision of staff, development of activity reports and preparation of budgets, and serves in an acting management role in the absence of the Manager.
- Contacts employers relative to employment opportunities for veterans or directs the veteran to the proper agency.
- In case of an emergency or crisis situation (hurricane, flood, etc.) position is required to respond/ perform recovery duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
- Employees hired on or after February 1, 2016, must be a tobacco-free person, both on and off the job, for at least one (1) year immediately preceding application and maintain the same tobacco-free status throughout the term of employment.
- Face Tattoos (from ear to ear and hairline of the forehead to the botton of the chin) are prohibited.
