The Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky is a 427-bed nursing home facility with multiple levels of care and multiple shifts available.

VETERANS BENEFITS COORDINATOR JOB DETAILS:
  • Starting Hourly Pay: $22.02 with multiple pay increases over your first years of service to $27.84 per hour.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Under general direction of the Cleveland Regional Liaison Officer, explains basic VA Compensation and Pension Benefits requirements, procedures, and time frames to veterans
  • Provide status on veterans claims and inform them of any issues that are found, providing them with avenues to correct any found errors in the claim
  • Communicate daily with VA employees to ensure veteran claims are accurate and information submitted is correct
  • Notify veterans of VA examinations, establish and maintain VA healthcare
  • Track and maintain daily veteran room visits, walk ins, and call logs
  • Ensure veteran's representatives are informed of any and all major changes in VA income and claim status that may affect a Veterans assessment
  • Review veteran's files to ensure they are receiving the maximum VA benefit
  • Develop claims and know when it is appropriate to submit the claim to the VA in order to obtain the desired outcome
  • Provide VA Rating Decision to veterans claim or representatives as needed / requested
  • Answer general questions on a veteran claim, (i.e. who is POA; was something received; what are effective dates)
  • Assist in updating Veterans contact information, such as address and phone number, as well as financial information, (i.e. direct deposit account numbers)
  • Submit or correct power of attorney forms in order to maintain access to the veterans VA File
  • Coordinate with VA's Fiduciary Field Examiner to appoint fiduciaries as needed
  • Assist with resolving Veteran payment and fraud issues as needed
  • Answer all other General inquires on a Veterans File
  • Retrieve VA income and report to Fiscal office inform veterans of State level benefits available on a case by case basis
  • Maintain a good, solid, working knowledge of all rules, and regulations concerning veteran benefits
  • Responsible for any incoming and outgoing office correspondence, to include VA related software updates, and other general mail
  • Complete VA burial applications and assist OVH with headstone applications
  • Assist with VA related medical bills under the Community Care Program
  • Compose and mail veterans VA notification letters
  • Certify state benefit letters
  • Notify CVSO's of upcoming VA TMS course expirations in order to maintain compliance with VA regulations
  • Receive ODVS Cleveland Office overflow calls
  • Assist CVSO's with Status updates, and corrections needed on a veteran's file

Qualifications
Formal education in arithmetic that includes calculating percentages, fractions & decimals & reading common English vocabulary; 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in public relations or customer service; 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in operation of personal computer & use of business office software (e.g. Microsoft Office)
-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above. NOTE: PER OAC 5902-1-03, Criteria for hiring county veteran's service officers for accreditation purposes - Applicant, shall be a veteran with an honorable discharge/separation; shall satisfactorily complete a background investigation by a local law enforcement agency.
Must be a veteran or must be currently serving in the military to be considered for this position.
