Job description


This Veteran Internship position serves as resource to project office staff and Office of Business Development (OBD) addressing Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and Commercially Useful Function (CUF) monitoring and compliance. Assist office staff with Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Program compliance and monitoring. Update and maintain CUF sampling database with findings, provide information on programs, projects, contractors, local organizations, MDOT project office staff and consultants.

This is a contracted appointment that may last up to two years in duration. Paid internships occur throughout the State of Michigan.
Veteran employment opportunities with the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) are made possible through funding provided by the Federal Highway Administration. This program is intended to meet the employment needs of honorably discharged veterans of the United States Armed Forces as they transition into the civilian workforce. MDOT is partnering with nationwide service-related organizations to fill needed positions for our veterans. Based on operational needs and within established limits, remote work and alternate work schedule requests for this position may be considered.

Required Education and Experience:

Education typically acquired through completion of high school.

Must be an honorably discharged veteran.

Applicants who possess foreign degrees must have their academic credentials evaluated or converted into U.S. educational equivalents. Civil Service accepts evaluations from organizations listed on the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services or the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc.

All newly hired state employees are required to submit and pass a pre-employment drug test and physical (if applicable) prior to their actual appointment. Criminal and driving records will also be checked if applicable. Any position offer will be conditional until results of the drug test, physical, criminal background, and driving records indicate eligibility for employment.
