Overview

The Venue Operations Manager reports to the Director of Venue Operations and is responsible for assisting in the administration, planning, budgeting and direction for the operations of the Center including front and back of house services, technical services, information technology, conversion, custodial services, temporary labor, and equipment inventory control. Insures an effective and cost efficient program by controlling the Operations budget, and performs related day to day responsibilities as required.

 

The Durham Convention Center is owned by the City and County of Durham and operated by OVG Venue Management. This role will pay a salary of $40,000.

Responsibilities
  • Work a flexible schedule that includes nights, weekends, weekdays and holidays.
  • Work with and responsible for FT & PT Staff Members in preparing venue for all events, maintaining the venue during events, assisting with room setups, maintenance, housekeeping and other needs.
  • Attend department, all-staff, BEO meetings, committee and other meetings as needed.
  • Perform venue safety and security walk-throughs daily and as needed on dark days. Record and processes all findings.
  • Provide or coordinate staff training on a regular basis.
  • Recruit, select, train, motivate and evaluate staff.
  • Work with employees to correct deficiencies and carry out discipline and termination procedures with department head and HR as needed.
  • Lead team with repairs and maintenance items ongoing.
  • Enforce all Company policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement opening and closing checklists
  • Inspect the building at the beginning of each day and on move out of events for any attention items. Address and communicate any associated costs.
  • Meet with staff to identify and resolve problems; assign work activities, projects and programs; monitor work flow; review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures.
  • Oversee the set-up of events; coordinate and oversee venue arrangements with third-party vendors.
  • Oversee ordering, receiving, and maintaining supplies and materials for maintenance and janitorial programs within budget guidelines.
  • Maintain hazardous materials communication program, material safety data sheets and required records and permits; maintain knowledge of changes in pertinent Federal, State and Local regulations.
  • Oversee work order process for preventative maintenance system within the venue.
  • Develop and maintain an accurate record keeping system.
  • Act as Manager on Duty as needed.
  • Prepare reports as needed such as monthly labor allocations, weekly reports, incident reports, inventory, or other reports as needed.
  • Enforce fire safety at all times.
  • Participate in the development and administration of the Operations budget; forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; implement adjustments as necessary
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications
  • Four (4) years' experience in supervisory responsibility.
  • Completion of twelfth grade, college degree preferred.
  • Working knowledge of facility, Convention Center, changeovers, set ups, and housekeeping.
  • Some maintenance ability strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, split shifts, weekends and holidays.
  • Capable of operating forklifts, scissor lifts, and other operational equipment.
  • Familiarity with OSHA requirements.
  • Ability to climb stairs, walk and stand for extended periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs. unaided.
  • Knowledge of Fire Code & Safety Regulations preferred.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks & work in fast paced environment.
  • Ability to lead staff and accomplish goals in a timely manner and on budget.
  • Strong verbal, written, and digital communication skills.
