Description of primary duties and responsibilities::Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:The Facilities Management Vehicle Maintenance section’s mission is to provide excellent customer service while maintaining FSU’s fleet of motorized vehicles and power equipment in a manner that keeps them available for use at all times.
Primary Purpose of the Position:The position works within the Department of Facilities Management’s Vehicle Maintenance section as a contributing level maintenance technician. The Vehicle Maintenance section maintains all of the vehicles and power equipment owned and operated by Fayetteville State University.
Preventative and Reactive/Corrective Maintenance-60%:
- Corrective maintenance tasks such as replacing brake pads, changing flat tires, replacing belts, hoses, alternators, batteries, etc.
- Expectations of a contributing level technician’s response to work orders include the ability to perform the above-mentioned tasks with minimum supervision and to check work for completeness and accuracy before returning the vehicle to the customer.
- Works with vehicle maintenance supervisor to follow preventative maintenance schedules for vehicles and various power equipment.
- Keeps vehicles and equipment available for use by inspecting and testing, completing preventative maintenance tasks such as engine tune-ups, oil changes, tire rotation, wheel balancing, and replacing filters.
- The Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor may assign the position to be the temporary shop lead in the Supervisor’s absence.
- The position may also be assigned to catalog parts, stock shelves, and label inventory when appropriate.
- Complete routine administrative tasks in a timely manner, including bi-weekly timesheets, leave requests, FSU-required training, etc.
- Seek and complete technical training opportunities to improve technical knowledge and skills.
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Knowledge skills and abilities::Knowledge – Technical:
Knowledge and ability to perform a variety of recurring and related tasks using steps and processes that are associated with less complex mechanical systems and components. Examples: Inspections, replacement of brake pads, replacement of regulator, alternator and belts, oil changes, tire balancing.
Problem-Solving:
Ability to follow instructions or standard operating procedures for assigned tasks. Ability to ask for clarification of instructions as needed. Ability to perform routine or repetitious tasks completely and accurately. Ability to check work for mistakes prior to review. Ability to compare finished work to what is expected.
Safety and Health Compliance:
Ability to perform tasks safely to avoid danger to self, co-workers or the general public. Ability to identify and inform supervisor of potential safety problems. Ability to use appropriate protective equipment in a safe manner.
Customer Service:
Ability to respond to customer needs within established parameters. Ability to provide prompt, attentive service. Ability to listen carefully and check for understanding of customer needs. Ability to demonstrate courteous actions and follow the organization’s established protocol for customer service.
Five (5) years of progressive experience in Vehicle/Equipment Repair.
Training in automotive or small engine repair.Commercial NC Driver’s License.
