Overview
The Lumentum VCSEL (Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser) Reliability team manages reliability studies, data analysis, failure analysis, lab and equipment maintenance/capabilities, and device design feedback. Reliability studies, the primary focus, are varied and dynamic with projects ranging from short term investigations (a few days), to long term (years). Confidence in the data produced is very important for developing reliable products for customers. As such, The Lumentum VCSEL Reliability team strives to maintain the lab and equipment in good, reproducible working conditions and carry out carefully planned studies. Members of this team work closely with project managers, R&D chip designers, and process engineers. Products studied vary from single element datacom VCSELs to large illumination VCSEL arrays.
Responsibilities
- Plan and execute reliability studies
- Data Analysis: collect data, plot data, look for trends and correlations, create/fit models, summarize, present to team
- Conduct failure analysis using reverse bias current measurements, microscope inspection, near-infrared imaging, and electroluminescent imaging
- Conduct systematic EOS/ESD stress study on VCSEL devices
- Learn and use fishbone analysis and 8-D reporting for device and equipment failures
- Conduct lab audits to test repeatability/reproducibility of stress ovens, test equipment, ESD safety tools/protocols
- Work with characterization tools: multimeter, oscilloscope, signal generator, source measure unit, etc
- Construct/modify lab equipment: soldering, prototyping, etc
- Troubleshoot device and equipment failures, and provide feedback/recommendations for design/repair solutions
If COVID restrictions allow for it, this internship will be on-site in San Jose, California.
Minimum Qualifications
- Qualified candidates will be enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Electrical Engineering or a related major.
Desired Qualifications
- Competent with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
- Familiar with Python and JMP
- Strong communications, initiative, and teamwork
- Comfortable working hands-on in a laboratory environment
- Independent, takes initiative and ownership of projects/tasks
Pay Range: $23.75-$54.50/hour
