General Summary: A nonexempt position responsible for using diagnostic medical equipment to diagnose various medical conditions. Sonography, or ultrasonography, is the use of sound waves to generate an image for assessment and diagnosis. Specialization in Vascular Ultrasound.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
1. Reviews patient’s medical history and physician’s instructions. Prepares equipment for procedure. Selects appropriate equipment settings. Explains procedure to patient and records any medical history that may be relevant to the condition being viewed.Directs the patient to move into positions that will provide the best view.
2. Spreads gel on the skin to aid the transmission of sound waves.
3. Operates special equipment to direct nonionizing, high-frequency sound waves into areas of the patient’s body. The equipment collects reflected echoes and forms an image that may be videotaped, transmitted, or photographed for interpretation and diagnosis by a physician.
4. Views the screen during the scan, looking for visual cues that contrast healthy areas with unhealthy ones. Selects images to show to the physician for diagnostic purposes. Takes measurements, calculates values, and analyzes the results in preliminary reports for the physicians.
5. Keeps patient records and adjusts/maintains equipment.
6. Complies with safety, infection control, and quality improvement policies/procedures.
Education: Associate's degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or a related field
- Certification as a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) or Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVS).
Experience: Minimum one or more years of experience and/or training with graduate sonographer.

Abilities:
1. Ability to explain technical procedures and results to patients in user-friendly manner.
2. Ability to calm patients who may be nervous about the procedure.
3. Ability to use correct body mechanics to assist patients appropriately.
Essential Requirements:
1. Perform Vascular Ultrasound examinations to assess blood flow and detect abnormalities
2. Analyze test results and provide preliminary findings to physicians
3. Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment plans
4. Proficiency in performing vascular sonography procedures, including Doppler imaging
5. Ability to adapt to changing technologies and techniques in the field of vascular technology
Equipment Operated: Variety of sonography equipment including ultrasound machines, transducers, gels, and computer hardware/software.
Work Environment: Combination of exam and laboratory rooms. In some situations, may work in procedure room. Sometimes works in close quarters. Exposure to communicable diseases, biohazards, and other conditions related to clinic settings.
Mental/Physical Requirements: May be standing or sitting for long periods and may have to lift/turn disabled patients. Work primarily at diagnostic imaging machines involving standing, sitting, walking, bending, lifting, and reaching. Some stress related to dealing with anxious patients.

Pay: $66,132.00 - $91,247.00 per year
