Position Summary
Reporting to the Co-Director of the Center for Justice, Columbia School of Social Work's Social Intervention Group (SIG) seeks an Oral History Project Manager who will oversee and coordinate the development and all aspects of the implementation of the Bedford Hills History Project, including the research methodology, data collection, and writing.
Responsibilities
- Plan and prepare for each Oral History interview, process the recording, prepare a transcript, and manage the storage of the oral histories.
- Organize the materials to transfer to Columbia University's Rare Books and Manuscripts Library.
- Collect, organize, and process the archival materials that have been gifted or are on loan. Including considerations for restriction, digitization, and finding aid metadata.
- Facilitate the collaborative process from pre-production through post-production of the documentary film Degrees of Freedom.
- Oversee the production of supplemental materials -- such as discussion guides, resources for educators, and website and social media content - as well as coordinate conferences or other presentations with associated materials.
- Facilitate the coordination of research design and network analysis for Columbia faculty and students, drawing on the oral histories, archives, and future follow-up interviews. Will also coordinate the artistic renderings of the analysis, digital and physical exhibitions, and the writing of scholarly articles and movement toolkits in the later stages of the project.
- Collect, organize, and process the papers of Kathy Boudin for submission to the Columbia University Rare Books and Manuscripts Library.
- Contribute to drafting an initiative at Columbia University's Rare Books Library to educate researchers using archival materials created by and about incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people. This includes collaboration with archivists, curators, and librarians at the University Libraries to roll out the initiative and devise metrics to measure its impact.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years of related experience
- Experience with project design, collecting and analyzing data: interviews and archival materials. Knowledge of archival storage.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience engaging with formerly incarcerated women and in women's prisons.
