Overview

Off-Road Gatlinburg is in search of an enthusiastic and skilled off-road Tour Guide to safely lead groups of tourists on UTVs on our thrilling, 2-hr tours through our 9-mile trail system, which covers difficult terrain and epic mountain views on our 350-acre park.

Our guides run 6 tours a day, starting at 9:00 AM, with the last tour ending at 7 PM.

This role requires a passion for adventure, knowledge of off-road vehicles, and exceptional communication skills to ensure the enjoyment and safety of tour participants.

Responsibilities

• Guide groups of tourists on 2 hr tours on predetermined off-road trails on difficult terrain, in a variety of outdoor conditions
• Ensure the safety and comfort of tour participants throughout the duration of the tour, ensuring all safety protocols and policies are upheld
• Create a memorable experience for tourist
• Take pictures of tourist in their UTVs at the staging area and at the million-dollar view (half-way point)
• Prepare for large tours
• Provide individual and group safety spills to tourists. Adapt tour content and delivery based on the interests and needs of the audience.
• Maintain a tight schedule to ensure tours start and end on time. Manage time effectively to adhere to tour schedules and meet designated landmarks or attractions within the allotted time frame.
• Adjust routes based on weather, audience, conditions, and additional factors
• Assist with administrative tasks such as ticket sales, waivers, booking reservations, and maintaining equipment as needed.
• Open and close the park, on occasion, based on seniority and other factors
• Inspect UTVs, equipment, and gear - along with logging inspections via phone app
• Handle unexpected situations calmly and efficiently, such as changes in weather, unforeseen circumstances, wrecks, flips, and similar circumstances.
• Recover vehicles on occasion due to breakdowns, flat tires, fuel issues, wrecks, or roll overs.
• Collaborate with other Tour Guides or staff members to ensure smooth operations and exceptional guest experiences.
• Communicate with staff - such as the mechanic, park manager, scheduling office, and other departments when necessary
• Wash and clean UTVs, equipment and gear so that its in optimal condition for the tours
• Additional responsibilities, such as gassing up UTVs, removing obstacles from trails, ensuring a clean and neat workspace, and more.

Qualities

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences from all walks of life and people from all over the world
• Strong public speaking and presentation abilities, with a clear and articulate speaking voice.
• Knowledgeable about local history, culture, geography, and attractions
• Knowledgeable about off-roading, powersports, UTVs, ATVs, cars/motorcycles, and similar topics.
• Customer service-oriented mindset with a passion for creating memorable experiences for guests (customer focused)
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to drive UTVs on challenging and difficult terrain
• Problem-solving skills and the ability to handle unexpected challenges with composure (i.e. UTV rollovers, downed trees, etc.).
• Physical stamina and the ability to walk or stand for extended periods, often outdoors and in varying weather conditions (rain, cold, dust, hot, etc.).
• Multilingual skills may be advantageous, depending on the clientele served.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or training in hospitality, tourism, history, or related fields preferred.
• Previous experience in customer service, tourism, outdoor, powersports, or public speaking roles is desirable.
• Knowledge of first aid and CPR may be beneficial.
