State Highway Administration's (SHA) District 3 is currently recruitingfor aUtility Permit Inspector (Transportation Engineering Technician V) in Montgomery County. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed below. This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy or function only. You will need to reapply for any future recruitment conducted for this job classification.

Nature of Work: The main purpose of this position is to review, issue, and inspect Utility Permits, district office permits, commercial access permits, lane closure permits, and retrofit sidewalk permits. This position will also issue and inspect bus shelter permits and residential entrances.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Eight (8) years of experience in technical engineering related work in the areas of design, traffic, construction, materials testing, engineering surveys, maintenance, or planning.

Selective Qualification: Four (4) years of the required experience must have involved roadway construction.

Selective qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or additional bona fide occupational qualifications (i.e., knowledge, skill, or abilities).


Notes:

1. Applicants may substitute education in a civil engineering curriculum at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.

2. Applicants who possess an associate degree in engineering, construction management or surveying or surveying technology from an accredited community college, college or university are considered to have met two years of the required experience.

Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the state of Maryland.

Candidate must possess or obtain the following certifications within six (6) months of appointment:

Temporary Traffic Control Manager Certification

Sediment and Erosion Card

Hot Mix Asphalt Certification

Certified Concrete Field Technician

Soils Certification Technician

Pavement Markings Certification

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position is considered essential and is expected to be available to work 24 hours/day 7 days/week for emergency situations and/or monitor nighttime construction operations.
