Job Summary:
The Utilities Operator will report to the Utilities Shift Supervisor and is responsible for operating natural gas fired steam boilers, a waste heat recovery incinerator (includes a boiler), waste management onsite and shipments offsite, process and storm sewer system, cooling ponds, plant utilities (compressed air, N2, natural gas). This position works a rotating shift schedule that will require mandatory shifts on nights, weekends, holidays and overtime coverage.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Safely operate and work with industrial equipment using the proper PPE and safety procedures.
- Operate natural gas fired steam boilers.
- Operate a waste heat recovery incinerator and associated waste tank farm.
- Operate process sewer treatment system.
- Manage the storm sewer system and outfalls.
- Management of waste, including but not limited to packing and unloading drums and totes, generation of slurry feed to waste incinerator, and preparation and management of waste shipments.
- Manage cooling ponds.
- Manage site utilities including compressed air, N2, and natural gas.
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment.
- Use of chemicals to analyze and balance water systems.
- Ability to operate industrial high-pressure washer.
- General housekeeping.
- Additional duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited school.
- Ability to maintain Ohio 3rd Class Stationary Engineer License.
- Understanding of hazardous materials and safety procedures (MSDS, JSA’s, etc.)
- Strong interpersonal communication skills (verbal/written).
- Ability to plan tasks, work independently, and display individual initiative.
- Able to occasionally wear SCBA and or Air Purifying Respirator.
- Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve.
- Possess basic mechanical aptitude.
- Basic math, reading, and computer skills.
- Ability to identify process improvements and act on them.
- Previous experience with digital control operating systems.
- Previous experience with hazardous waste handling.
- Previous forklift experience.
- Knowledge of chemistry and chemical hazards.
- Previous experience operating an industrial high-pressure washer.
- Previous experience in safety teams or industrial safety training.
- Previous experience in manufacturing and/or chemical industry.
- Troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of SDS.
- Ability to move material using a forklift.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Willing/able to work outdoors in inclement weather.
- Ability to climb stairs or work in partially confined areas.
- Willing to work 12 hour rotating shifts, overtime, and holidays as needed.
- Maintain clean shaven appearance to allow for respirator usage.
