Job Description Summary

The Utilities Operations Generalist will operate and maintain equipment used in the generation, regulation, and distribution of steam, compressed gases, and water in the facility. You will also operate equipment used in water treatment, factory and city water, fire pumps, feed water systems, fuel oil transfer systems, and industrial gas systems.

Essential Responsibilities

• Boilers, air compressors, steam and electric pumps, water and steam valves, air compressors, factory water pumps, air supply and gas exhaust fans and dampers, boiler controls and monitoring systems, water softening equipment, oil and gas burning equipment, water testing apparatus, ash de-aerators, steam and gas meters, charts, log sheets, small to medium pick up trucks, hand tools. 
• Works without direction on standard system operations.  Assists other personnel in their job assignments as directed.  Provides OJT training to other personnel.  Receives job progression information from the previous shift and specialists.  Passes on job progression information to the new shift and specialists. 
• Working from instruction of supervision or the shift leader, and standard boiler room plant operating procedures, operate boilers, electric drive boiler feed water and condensate pumps, controls for automatic operation of boilers, soot blowers, de-aerators, feed water heaters, heat exchangers, air compressors, and factory water pumps, de-superheating equipment, equipment for water treatment for boiler use, coordinate steam requirements for heating all buildings.  Clean and perform routine maintenance on control devices, oil burners, valves, pumps, pans nozzles, line, screens, compressors, traps bearing, etc.  Observe material unloading activity by vendors.  Check all buildings for heat and decide when to introduce heat.  Operate the steam pressure reducing systems, clean traps, and replace cage units when not reparable.  Locate leaks in the heating system, air water and gas.  Remove and replace pipe covering as necessary.  In emergency situations order services cut off from manufacturing areas to minimize or prevent damage to company property.  Correct minor operating difficulties.  Observe, record, and maintain records as required. 
• Order materials as required for jobs and assists in maintain levels of standard spare parts. 
• Perform preventative maintenance checks and services. 
• Maintains the condition of his/her workstation and assigned tools. 
• Utilizes all PPE required for diagnosis and repair of equipment.  Performs all functions of confined space entry, Supervisors, Attendant, and Entrant.  Utilizes all LOTO equipment and procedures

Basic Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Plant Technology, Mechanical Technology, HVAC or similar degree and demonstrated competency by a technical interview that may include hands on demonstration
• High School Diploma/GED with military training in boiler/stationary equipment operations and demonstrated competency by a technical interview that may include hands on demonstration

37.6140.92 per hour. The top rate for this position is $40.92/hour. This position is also eligible for a Night Shift Bonus of $1.00/hour. This posting is expected to close on April 1, 2024.​
