Job description

The USGA is a mission-based nonprofit organization whose purpose is to unify the game, showcase the best talent in golf, provide impartial governance and advance our impact on critical issues such as sustainability, accessibility and inclusion. About this role: 

The United States Golf Association is seeking a Photo Editor and archivist to oversee the management of the USGA's archive of nearly one million photographs chronicling the game of golf and to use those assets to assist in telling the stories of golf.

The USGA Photo Editor and Digital Archivist is responsible for the cataloging and maintenance of the USGA's visual collection and serves as the liaison between the USGA and its stakeholders, including media, broadcast partners, corporate partners, USGA staff, scholars, host clubs, USGA competitors. S/he oversees the USGA's catalog of digital images and advocates on the organization's behalf to ensure that the USGA's collection continues to be the premier collection of golf photography in the world.

What you'll do:

Cataloging and Digitization

  • Edit new digital and historical images including making selects, adding metadata and catalog files in the USGA's DAM. Archive all digital images produced from new photography and special projects, as assigned
  • Implement and oversee policies and workflows for archiving, description, access, and preservation of the visual collection
  • Maintain controlled vocabularies and ensure proper application
  • Digitize archival images with corresponding metadata
  • Update workflow and adhere to processing of physical assets for offsite storage
  • Work with USGA staff to archive photography related to USGA events and championships

Championships

  • Travel to select USGA championships to work with photo team to edit, and deliver image assets to the USGA's DAM for media usage and to USGA channels
  • Remote edit championships as assigned
  • Oversee cataloging and metadata of all championship assets

Research Requests

  • Respond to client requests for images
  • Act as a liaison between the USGA and requestors regarding availability of visual materials and their use in all media in accordance with policies and costs involved
  • Process all image licensing requests

Collections Care

  • Work with the Creative Director and Librarian to assess needs for management and long-term preservation of digitized and born-digital materials
  • Monitor archival storage needs on and offsite
  • Remain current with evolving cataloging and digitization standards and best practices
  • Maintain an awareness of current trends in archives and Digital preservation

Where you'll be: 

This role will be based at our Liberty Corner, NJ campus on a hybrid schedule. Employees are expected to spend 3 days per week working in the office, between Monday - Thursday.

What you bring:

  • Strong experience with Adobe Photoshop and PhotoMechanic
  • Knowledge of digital workflows to include: color correcting, automation
  • Experience with digital asset management systems and workflow tools
  • Bachelors degree in Journalism/Communications or Art History, Library and Information Science
  • Ability to efficiently manage multiple projects at once
  • Strong public relations, communications, organizational and interpersonal skills required
