Job Description

For People is a team of skilled technologists improving government digital services for disadvantaged and vulnerable populations. We embed directly in government agencies to modernize software, systems, and platforms so that they better serve people.
Your Impact
As a User Experience Researcher and Designer at For People, you will play a pivotal role in the digital transformation of federal government services. You will improve key User Experiences, information architecture, and page layouts to modernize a content-rich Department of Commerce website. While this role will be approximately 80% research-oriented, you will also utilize existing design pattern libraries to design new pages and user interfaces. This new project will transform how this particular Department of Commerce Bureau disseminates important information, enabling small businesses in the United States to grow to new markets.
Our Culture
For People is a team of humans. We place a significant amount of emphasis on positive work-life balance, setting healthy expectations, and making sure our loved ones are taken care of first. That means picking a child up from school during the day or going for a mid-day walk is okay!
Our entire team is remote across the United States, from the West Coast to the East Coast. There will never be a return-to-office, as we have none! However, it should be noted that this position will require occasional travel for on-site user research and usability testing at Government offices in Washington, DC.
This position's published base salary range is between $80,000 and $120,000 annually, plus generous benefits (e.g., For People pays 100% of Gold-tier employee health insurance premiums) and annual company profit sharing.
Your Opportunities
On this project, you will be on a small, agile team improving a Department of Commerce website. As the User Experience Researcher and Designer, you will:
  • Conduct in-depth user research to identify opportunities for improving the website's information architecture, page layouts, styling, and user flows in Drupal
  • Communicate research findings and design recommendations effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Design tools to consolidate extensive content into user-friendly tools and search functions, making information easily accessible to users
  • Use the US Web Design Standards, ensuring compliance and consistency in User Experience
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate research findings into actionable design improvements

You Bring
  • A humble and caring attitude aligning with For People’s values– how we work with passion, fun, curiosity and sustainability, humility, and respect.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in User Experience research, particularly for large-scale public-facing websites or services
  • Experience leading user research activities for complex products and/or services, from the planning stage through the execution
  • Familiarity with industry design and collaboration tools such as Figma, Mural, Dovetail (or other research repository software)
  • Experience with Drupal and familiarity with the US Web Design Standards is a plus
  • A strong understanding of applying human-centered design strategies, methods, and approaches
  • An ability to apply design pattern libraries to design new user interfaces, with a portfolio showcasing previous work
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities

If you're passionate about modernizing government websites and ready to make information more easily understandable to America’s business, we encourage you to apply.
Some fine print. You will be working on a United States government platform, and they have a few basic requirements for contractors like ourselves. You must perform all work physically within the United States at all times. In addition, you must be a United States citizen and be able to pass a government-performed public trust background check.
For People is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetics, and/or veteran status.
