Job description

The mission of the Information Technology Group (ITG) is to develop, implement and maintain technology-based services and solutions enabling OHSU to effectively manage information to accomplish its missions. Who we are We're Oregon Health & Science University¿s Digital Strategy team. We¿re the developers, web and security engineers, analysts, User Experience and customer support experts who manage OHSU's digital presence. We design, implement, optimize and maintain a collection of content management systems (CMS), a custom application platform, and 3rd-party integrations for OHSU's public website and intranet.

The User Experience (UX) researcher will help OHSU better understand the end-User Experience with a focus on the digital touchpoints in the user’s journey. This role will collaborate with digital strategists, data analysts, patient experience advocates, content strategists, developers, and other UX-minded folks across OHSU in order to gain insights about end-users and turn those insights into improvements using human-centered design principles.

 

The UX researcher identifies areas for improving the digital experience and helps crafts research plans to understand user behavior. They conduct research and summarize their findings, including recommendations for UI or process changes. The UX researcher identifies ways to measure the success of these changes. They also contribute to OHSU’s evolving usability and accessibility principles and guidelines.

 


Education:

 

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and two years work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR

Associate’s degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field and three years work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR

Four years work related experience in the information technology field or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare environments; OR

Equivalent combination of education and experience where one year of experience will be substituted for an Associate’s degree and two years of experience will be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree.

 

Experience:

  • Experience studying or working in the field of User Experience research or digital design
  • Experience conducting user research
  • Experience summarizing research findings
  • Experience using a web content management system, like WordPress or Drupal
  • Experience as a researcher on collaborative projects (including school projects)

Job Related Knowledge, Skills, and abilities:

  • Deep understanding of basic digital User Experience principles and concepts
  • Interest in survey design, field studies, interviews, and remote research methods
  • Knowledge of web accessibility standards
  • Ability to bring empathy and critical thinking on behalf of our users
  • Familiarity with modern web analytics
  • Good writing skills
  • A proactive and cooperative attitude with strong interpersonal skills and an interest in educating others about UX best practices
  • Desire to stay up on new web technologies, design patterns, and standards

This is a limited duration assignment expected to last through June 30, 2024
