Job description

Looking for a senior researcher to direct generative, formative, and evaluative research efforts within the Consumer Payments space at JP Morgan Chase.  In this role you will lead complicated, strategically important research initiatives in new and emerging 0-product areas. Success in this role comes from delivering actionable insights that drive innovation across product development teams, taming complexity for our users. Additionally, Researchers catalyze turning all of product development into a learning organization, guiding others on how to better conduct research and get the most out of our findings. 

As a User Experience Research Lead in our Consumer Payments team, you will have the opportunity to lead complex, strategically important research initiatives. You will be a key partner with Product Management and Engineering, playing a crucial role in prioritizing, planning, and making decisions that will shape the execution of our projects. This role offers you the chance to deliver actionable insights that promote innovation across product development teams, simplifying complexity for our users and turning our product development into a learning organization.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Design and lead research studies for strategic, durable insights as well as fast turnaround projects 
  • Helping move the "Banking 1.0" digital products to modernization, but also connecting them to new rails that help create frictionless, transparent and quick experiences. 
  • Work with design and product leads to identify areas where User Experience Research can best provide insight and impact and develop product strategies. 
  • Ensure research results are actionable and contribute directly to meeting project and business goals
  • Contribute to next gen vision for the research function, identifying areas of opportunity or improvement, including identifying process improvements, new tools and approaches
  • Draw inferences from a wide range of types of data sources and studies 
  • Inspire confidence and collaborate closely with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, across functions, and including product leadership and senior business executives. 

Required Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree or Master's degree in relevant research or design discipline (e.g., Interaction Design, HCI, Anthropology, Cognitive Science), certification from credible bootcamp or similar accelerated learning program, or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years industry experience in the UXR field
  • Expert User Research skills across all forms of research (evaluative, generative, formative)
  • Ability to lead a complex research study from beginning to end independently, including independent project management
  • Prior experience collaborating within design teams (with UX Researchers, Product Designers and Content Designers) and cross-functionally (Product Management, Analytics and Engineering)
  • Comfortable and confident presenting work to senior executives
  • Robust understanding how to tie research to business objectives

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills

  • Advocating for Inclusive Design practices
  • Familiarity in working with Banks or Technology Companies
  • Experience with mixed methods - designing and running surveys, analyzing quantitative data 
  • Support other researchers as needed to ensure quality and consistency of deliverables and best practices; coaching and mentor junior team members
