The Used Equipment Manager is responsible for managing the entire Used Equipment process from appraisal, to acquisition and disposition of the asset. The Used Equipment Manager has a major role in supporting new equipment sales through timely and accurate trade appraisals while developing and executing processes that will drive profitable Used Equipment sales and inventory turns for the company.
Key Responsibility Areas

  • Review trade appraisal submissions and establish retail or wholesale trade values based on internal and external resources, communicate recommendations to requesting Sales Representative and Sales Manager.
  • At managements request provide appraisals for JESCO customer lease returns to determine market value and aid in the decision to purchase the asset as a used retail or rental inventory machine.
  • Responsible for the receipt of the used asset, expedite the sale to wholesalers or process the machine for retail sale.
  • Regular travel to JESCO locations to maintain a strong understanding of used assets and maintain branch level relationships.
  • Determine if used retail inventory is in need of repair, maintenance or appearance improvements to maximize value and profitability, review costs with management for approval and follow through the completion of work as scheduled.
  • Work closely with Parts & Service departments to ensure proper support of the Used Equipment department.
  • Develop and manage all aspect of Used Equipment marketing for the company including financial objectives, sales and operating budgets and revenue projections.
  • Profit and Loss responsibility within the Used Equipment department.
  • Formulate detail machine descriptions, images and pricing and distribute to sales and sales management personnel company wide
  • Place and manage used inventory units on company and third-party websites, industry publications and other media sources to market all used inventory.
  • Work closely with marketing department to maintain JESCO Used Equipment web page.
  • Search Deere ERS inventory and/or other listing sites to identify machines for used retail inventory or customer sale.
  • Evaluate and determine if used inventory machines qualify for Deere's Certified Pre-Owned Equipment program and if the cost will increase their value and profitability.
  • Monitor the health of the Used Equipment market and industry trends compared to JESCO's inventory and provide data to management that drives the pricing and value of the company's used assets.
  • Develop an understanding of JESCO's Used Equipment markets, its customers and collaborate with sales team members for targeted end customer sales.
  • Develop and maintain a JESCO Used Equipment trade history pricing data base.
  • Monitor Used Equipment aging and manage inventory turn, days on hand and inventory location.
  • Develop a database of Used Equipment customers and prospects in the companies CRM system.
  • Develop and expand JESCO's network of domestic and international Used Equipment wholesale channels.
  • Work with John Deere Financial and other lending institutions for Used Equipment financing programs and communicate offerings to sales team members.
  • Spearhead the branch location of retail used inventory to align with local market needs and potential buyers.
  • Track and report used inventory aging, turnover, profit margins and other metrics to drive performance improvements and profitability.
  • Identify and implement industry best practices to achieve high profit margins and turnover of used assets.
  • Occasionally travel with field Territory Managers on customer visits that involve large or complex trade packages.

  • Trade appraisal values versus retail or wholesale transactions.
  • Used equipment gross profit margin.
